I would like to get a player with the following attributes:
Excellent composite video
AC-3 output
Optical audio output
Double sided disc playback without flipping

I use an external 3d comb filter, so a player with legendary s-video output would be wasted on me. Recommendations for players with great composite video output are much appreciated.

Pioneer CLD-3080, Pioneer CLD-95, Panasonic LX-900U, CLD-97, Runco LJR-I, Runco LJR-II, McIntosh MLD-7020 in the order from less expensive to more expense while all having comparable performance to each other. Most of these won't have a factory installed AC-3 output but it can be added later.

Thanks for the list, I'll keep an eye out for those models. If any others with great composite quality come to mind, I'm all ears.

Is anyone on the forum selling players currently?

I’m sure most of us on here now agree that shipping LD players is really not an option due to their extremely fragile nature, so the best advice really would be to keep a look out for anything available locally that can be personally collected. Welcome to the forum btw

That's something I hadn't considered, thanks for the heads up. I have a Magnavox CDV-484 currently that I've restored and want something with better composite video, and especially auto-reverse. I can add AC-3 myself, so that's not a must. There is a great price on a working CLD-D604 nearby, but I was hoping for more of a high end player.

It does seem that you would at least gain both sides play with the 604 but as you rightly surmise, perhaps not so much of a performance lift over your current Magnavox?
The only way really is to sit tight patiently and hopefully one of the above mentioned models may just show up locally, good luck!

I ended up picking up a working CLD-D505 locally last night, it's nothing special but at least has auto-reverse. I have a lead on an LX-900U too though that would touch all my boxes after doing the ac-3 mod.

I would probably try and skip out on the LX-900 and instead find its sister model the Quasar, LD-700. The 900 has a known issue w/ the right side of the picture being cut off a tad bit due to the way the digital memory was implemented on it. The later LD-700 is basically a clone of the LX-900 but because it was released later it had all those bugs resolved on it.

When I see horizontal lines on a laserdisc player is this..?

ldfan is correct about the LX-900 having an issue with cutting off the right side of the screen but what it does better than the majority of Pioneer Players is that it has less CLV smearing. With that said my main player right now in my living room is the CLD-99. So I guess I'm choosing some CLV smearing over the little bit of cut off on the right side of the screen on the LX-900. Also, I believe I heard there's weird black or grey color issues with LX-900 revision 1992 and 1993 models specifically? My LX-900 is a revision 1995 model. I will say this. Depending on the movie and the TV used that CLV smearing can be really annoying depending on the movie and how close to the screen you are. I don't have perfect vision and my glasses prescription is probably off but I notice the smearing.

Can someone please explain to me why this thread has 1300+ views on a forum with like 11 members? Who’s responsible for that?

This website gets free advertisement on reddit often. I've seen myself and others reference lddb on reddit. I believe there's a lot of people who don't register and are guests.
