Laserdisc looks almost as good as DVD with this player. The only complaint I have is in some dark scenes like in A Nightmare on Elm Street it looks jumbled almost like bitrate issues which makes no sense since laserdisc is analog format but the blacks have issues in certain areas of this specific laserdisc film print. Maybe it's more the print than laserdisc format? I uploaded some examples but obviously filming with an Iphone 6 is not the best way to show this but I'm telling you in person this is insane. I noticed a huge difference in quality from composite to s-video with this player on this fat tube tv. I wasn't expecting it to jump up that much in quality but it did. Well, this was a $2,400 dollar player when it launched. I guess that 3d comb filter is so expensive for them at the time period that they didn't include it on any other North American players. Also, when I'm filming it's making the tv look extra sharp but in person it's not that sharp. I turned down the sharpness on the Sylvania tv because the cld-99 is already a fairly sharp player image quality as it is.
Obviously can't judge it based on filming off a tv but I'm just giving examples. This is just in good fun. In person it looks a zillion times better.
*Updated because apparently with how tired I was last night or this morning when I posted this topic I forgot to include the video clip of Tree of Might.
