Post subject:  [VP-1000] Parts NEEDED

Heyo,

Recently I mentioned in a thread my VP-1000 started blowing fuses. Well, I did some probing around and determined that the HV transformer (part of the power supply that drives the laser tube) has a dead short in its primary winding. Since removing it from circuit, the player now operates normally, aside from the lack of laser functionality.

Would anyone happen to have an extra transformer on hand? [It's the smaller of the two and gold in color.] I'd be glad to cover shipping, etc. Please let me know if you can help bring my player back from the dead!

(From what I've read, this is a very mechanically unreliable machine, leading to many owners having to purchase parts units )

Thank you all!

Hi, audiodude-

That transformer was apparently a common failing part in VP-1000s. Mine went bad in 1985, and I got a new one from Pioneer at that time.

It might be worthwhile to open up the transformer housing and see if you could fine and fix the short.

Interesting, wonder if any replacement solutions have been found yet?

I did try opening the transformer, but couldn't find any obvious shorts in the visible portion of the windings. Unfortunately, whatever adhesive they used to hold the laminations together is so strong that I'm not sure it's possible to disassemble this transformer to remove the core, not without an appropriate solvent at least. I will hang onto the faulty part for now though!
