I purchased a 97 tonight from Duncan with ac-3 mod and dnr mod. He has several 97 face plates and said that he will use the best one. Finally, the search is over. Now I just need to find a demodulator for a fair price.

A DNR mod?

TLK

You know, reversing the NR so it's default "off" when play is started

Okay. Yes, I've heard of that one. :D

There is a brand new, never used, still in the original carton elite 97 available on the Chicago Craig's list. It's a beauty, and he's asking over $3000 for it (!!)

Out of curiosity, how is the DNR mod done? Is it a chip or some soldering wires?

I cut one foil and add a transistor as an invertor to reverse the signal that turns the NR on when play is started. I know there are other methods....

Is there a guide that shows you what you have to do? What kind of transistor, how to install,.. etc?

Does NR mean "Noise reduction" ? Sorry for the question, what kind of mod is this ?

Yup, NR=noise reducition, aka DNR=digital noise reduction. It is default ON when the CLD-97 plays a disk. Duncan (ldservice) made a mod to turn it to auto OFF.

I received the 97 from Duncan last week and couldn't be happier. It plays great and all the mods work as expected. The cosmetic condion is better than I expected as well. It was an absolute pleasure dealing with Duncan. What a GREAT guy.
