Yeah, that was the top loader that UPS dropped or something. Really sad. Sold it for 100 with 50 in shipping. I hope the guy gets it fixed. It would be a shame if he didnt. I dont like selling cheaper players, makes no sense really on ebay.

totally agree, but if UPS gives any money back to you or him THEY take the player and will probably trash it

but if everybody thinks for a second and says "hey i paid 150 and put another 100 into this i have a super awesome player for only 250 and it originally cost 1K
and now it will last another 20+ years with no issues."

I was digging in the archives and found some MSRP's on Pioneer Laserdisc Players on the old Pioneer website from 1997-2007. (I'm going to double post this, I think it might be good enough for it's own post on the main discussion board.) I'll post some links on the other post on the main discussion board if you want to take your own stroll down memory lane.

All prices are US MSRP

Here's something that was posted on the site under the LD/DVD tab, FYI: DVD is here, and Pioneer's optical-disc experience leads the way. This unit offers great reproduction of an increasing number of hot DVD titles, over 8,500 Laser Discs and a zillion audio CDs. Legato Link and Digital Noise Reduction are just two main features, plus the Elite two-year warranty. A zillion? Really?

'99-'07 Prices:

Prices looked to be the same at end of '99 thru '01. The high end consumer DVL-919, 909 (1275.00) and ELITE DVL-91 (1800.00) were priced-locked from 98-2001. The CLD-97, 99, DVL-90, DVL-59 etc. must have been dropped after '97 (making them more collectable and harder to find of course!). They were gone from the site in '98. I didn't notice any drop in MSRP from that time on those units.

The DVL-91 must have been dropped at the end of 2001 or shortly thereafter. It disappears from the site.

The website changed several times and in 2002 you have to enter your country code so I haven't been able to get in from '02-'03 so it might not be archived at all for those years. Then the website changed again in 2004.

Shockingly, the price of the DVL-919 was still the same in 2004-2005 at 1275.00! Strangely the DVL-909 is found under "older models" and not alongside the 919, so I don't know if that means it wasn't a current product or not. It did have it priced at 1275.00 up through 2007.

Finally in 2006 the price dropped to 999.00 for the DVL-919 and I think it disappears as a current product after 2007 and during 2008. The 909 was still shown at 1275.00 but under "Older Models" through the end of 2007.

Something else, I didn't realize Netflix had been around that long. But there was an ad for Netflix or a free offer maybe on the Pioneer site in '99. Netflix looked much different back then. Wow!
