Think I will sell mine now.

People have suddenly been paying crazy amounts on there for LD stuff, but that's definitely insane. My DVL-700 was only $50 MIB just was missing the manual.

I have a 909, a 919, a 700, and a 704. Maybe it is time to sell them and get a really nice player, lol.

If he says very little use, I would purchase with confidence.
Someone got a DVL-919 in very good shape with few hours of use............
Surprise to me that it sold for that though !

How much did it go for?

i think it's due to US buyers not knowning about the quality of Japanese LD players.
OR they don't really know how to get them.

i had one of those LD-DVD combos, with the box used but mint.
wouldn't play half of my DVDs so i sold it right away and bought a pioneer DVD player for 70 bucks
that has a better player than the combo unit.

That is still insane. You are correct that the combo unit doesnt work well. I am considering seilling mine and getting a really nice, well, nicer then a 704 player as I have about a dozen dvd players

With the Pioneer DVL 919 being the last domestic laserdisc player ever made in most terrorities there will be many duped into thinking it is the best player ever produced with all the latest technology.

The fact it plays both DVDs and laserdiscs will certainly add some novelty appeal for some folks.
When I was explaining to a colleague that several of my laserdisc players could also play DVDs he genuinely didn't believe me and thought I was just winding him up.

So even though the 919 is no HLD-X9 it still has a few tricks up its sleeve that give it the 'wow' factor over many other players.
That price does seem excessive though.

Bought mine stricktly for LD.
Played one dvd to see how it "worked".
Buying used electronics is a risky venture, roulette comes to mind actually.
And then there is the "dead on arrival" shipping factor that we all know is a risk.
Win big or just loose bad.

First player ever, nothing wrong with throwing down on a "last of the breed" mint unit....
Guess we will have to agree to disagree about the purchase.

I also read you laserdisc_fan, summed up me buying a new DVL-919 for the "end of an era" nostalgia.
Though not duped into the purchase.
My sights have always been on a HLD-X9, one day hopefully big Guy willing !!!

that's too much for a DVL-919 even if it's brand new in box. Buy a 95,97,99,704 from Duncan or Kbahr for much less, you know it will work better than new

I am not saying the seller isnt good, he sounds like a great guy and sells top notch stuff. I am talking about whoever paid 1k for a 919 laserdisc player. Unless it was produced in 2008 or 2007 I think it is to much. That being said, maybe the fact I paid 50 bucks for mine with the instructions, remote and looks new could be the reason I think 1000 is to much. Mine was produced in 1998 1999 I believe. I applaud the dealer though for getting 1k. Very nice sale on his side.

Are you saying $50 is the going price for a DVL-919?
Two listed on ebay currently are $300 & $650 buy it now.
And they both look beat up pretty bad.
If they were everywhere for $50 then I can see how you would type this thread.

It works well, and plays dvds fine. I have a 909 as well and like the 919 better. I have a 704 down stairs which I like a lot. I just cant imagine paying 900 bucks for a 919. I figure they are worth around 250 - 300 bucks in decent shape because after that you are getting into the elite price range.

Stuff like that. I mean a 919 is a good unit. Just not that kind of good! Now they are pretty bulletproof so they will last forever. I need to have my 909 refurbished and get it back in top notch shape and will probably sell that one.

I've four 909's and one 919 bought betweeen 2006 and 2010. All of them look like new - not a fingerprint on any of the cases. I only bid on the really clean ones.
Most came with the instruction manual, remote and even the original box. None cost more than £100 each ($155 USD). All were manufactured in 1997-1999.

NIB 2008 DVL-919 unit was worth the price to me at the time.
Perhaps it was a mistake..... Perhaps not....
All I know is that it is a thrill to look at and quite nice to view discs on.............

There was a S9 a few months ago from japan. $700 buy it now $200 ship. It looked very clean. There was also a domestic listing for $1200 with few hours later model(new pioneer logo). There is a sony muse player on ebay uk for $450 at the moment.
If you already bought a player for $900, there is no need to argue. Whats done is done. When I buy something expensive regardless super good deal or not, i dont look at that or similar item in the market. I know you can always find better or cheaper. Im sure for many folks spending $100 on a ld player is crazy where you can buy a bd player for $60 nowadays.

I have a DVL-919E and I think it's a great player, miles ahead of my previous player but I know there's better out there and if I was paying that sort of price I'd want something much better.

I think people must think the 909/919 is just so amazingly awesome. If its advanced enough to play DVDs it must be a totally kick-ass LD player, right? That's kind of what I thought when it came out. I also like how incredibly easy it is to make it play R2 DVDs.

The reality if course is that its not any better of an LD player than the other players of that era, quite a bit worse than others, and its a garbage DVD player. I forgive people for not understanding it since LD is a confusing as hell format, but yeah, given how middle of the road they are and how incredibly common they are I don't see why they fetch more than $250.

How much you want to be the person buying that thing thinks that the component outputs of that DVL-919 also works for the LD playing portion?
