I did when I got mine. Now if you were watching black and white movies hey! Lol. Actually, the manufacturing date would be important for the sale. Like I said, if it was one of the 919s made in the 2000s I could probably see the reason for the price as they were being sold for 1500-2000 up until about 2009 I think on the Pioneer Website and you can still see the Players that were for sale on the website.

Manufacturing date is a factor although bear in mind there are reports online of people buying a 'new' machine with a manufacturing date of several years before that date. So it seems some were in storage for quite a while.

For me personally usage and condition is the most important factor. I'd rather have an older model if it was in near mint condition than a newer neglected one. Same philosophy when buying laserdiscs. Aesthetically the 919 and 909 are elegant machines. The champagne gold coloured one in particular doesn't look out of place beside an HLD-X9 however lift one up and compare the relative weight and construction and they are world's apart.

When I was looking for a decent player to upgrade I looked at a few 909's and 919. I was all set on the 919 because it had optical and the 909 didn't. (I guess you can add it but right out of the box it's stock.) But the going prices on eBay were between 200-350. That was with a remote. I'd care less for the original box if they were asking 1000. I don't think age is going to make much difference. The one that sold for 1000 was made in 1998, all of the good players were made from 1990-1998, so all from the same time period and over ten years old. The top end MUSE players were made in 94 or 95. Totally not worth the price though for those. Just get Blu-ray if quality is what you want.

Ended up going with a DVL-90 for about 250. It looks great with the wood and it's Elite. Also got a DVL 700 with box, manual and remote (DVL-90 was missing remote). Doesn't work, just got it for the remote, very hard to find.

Many like the looks of 909 and 919. I too prefer 90 and 91.

Not all 919s are overpriced. The reason I bought a 919E was because I wanted to upgrade to a machine with AC3 and side change but they were all way out of the price range I was willing to spend. Then a broken DVL-919E popped up on eBay, messaged the buyer to find out what was wrong, bought it and fixed it up myself; DVL-919E for £15 + elbow grease!

I don't think I could ever justify spending £900+ for a player no matter how good.

It would have to have a popcorn maker built in!

How much you want to be the person buying that thing thinks that the component outputs of that DVL-919 also works for the LD playing portion?

Very likely. In addition the 919 is really not a great unit. The combo players to me were a waste. I had one and it's dvd technology was behind the times before you knew it. A bulky unit with alot of noise in picture I feel.
I payed less for my R7G.

The prices on Amazon are even worse, which they usually are for most limited items. The sellers on there are just crazy retarded. If they had an ounce of gold they'd list it for 3 times the going market. There's a new 919 for 3,999 and used units north of 1200.00. I guess because it's the final LD players they think everyone will want it.

I got a DVL-919 back in '99. I wanted to replace the Sony MDP-A3 that I had at the time with its deteriorating picture. Luckily I was in the Navy Reserves and had access to the Navy Exchange website. Ordered the DVL-919 from there with free shipping for $599. It was also my first DVD player so I got good use out of it, until I wised up on varying LD picture quality!

Well, I listed it for 749. If someone wants it, that is what it will cost them, lol. If I sell it I can find myself a nice ld player, well, nicer then the 704.

I guess I should have bought a few late last year when they were going in the 300-ish range. There's a DVL-91 listed right now for 329.00 that I'd jump on if I were a new buyer. I can't see any reason to upgrade from my DVL-90 to do it. The component outs for DVD are nice over the DVL-90 but I wouldn't use it anyway.

Definitely pick it up! Then sell it on ebay for $1000!
