That does look suspiciously like a LaserDisk.

That show was a call-in "wish for a song" programme. I personally always thought the Jukebox they had in the studio was actually relevant, after all they not only had to enter codes for some programmes, but those codes were also publishes on Teletext.
I have just learned that instead it was just using 12 LaserDisk players controlled from that device.
