I have both and would rate the 925 a better laserdisc player both in terms of technical ability and ease of use.
My everyday player is a 925 and I love it - that is the player I have the most spare machines of too (eight at last count).
It isn't as elegant looking cosmetically at the DVL series but in all other respects it beats it.
I hate the remote you get with a DVL which compromises the original LD functionality for DVD buttons which you'll never use because the DVD player is sub standard.
I cannot stick using a LD player without the rotary jog & shuttle control which is essential if you are watching music clips.
Thankfully the 925 comes with the classic laserdisc remote we all love.
The 925 was the last decent LD player in Europe before they compromised the design severely for DVD playback.

Well I own a DVL-919E and it's the best player I've used, but then I've never used a 925 so I can't really give a good comparison. I enjoy using the 919E and think the picture quality is great as long as you remember to turn of HQ mode.

I own a few cld-d925 units and have had a few 919E players in the last few years...
When compared I liked the 925 PQ better.
HQ button to be avoided on any player I agree!! no more resolution left when you push that one...

The 919E is not a bad player but somewhat a compromise I think. Sure it has the looks...
I did notice that with different equipment like scalers etc.. results can differ much.
With some tweaking the 919 can provide a nice picture. I recommend using the composite out on the 919E
with my 925 unit(s) there is less tweaking involved...

I guess it comes down to matching equipment. With some patience any player can display a nice picture IMHO
I've been hooking up so many players trough scalers and who knows what but in the end take the composite out and make some picture adjustements on your display , sit down and enjoy the format in all it's glory. 20 years ago ld was as high end it would get. comparing with today's technology it's obvious. It had a great run and that's that...

I owned several US and Japanese players but until this day I never came across a Pioneer player that didn't do the job.
I hate the assumption that European players are low quality. Pioneer could not afford building a bad player you know...
Some time ago I used a cld-hf9G . Not a world of difference ... it's the so called equivalent of the 99 elite players...
on a crt display I agree picture is better with "high end " players. I noticed better PQ when I used a dvl-h9 on my crt .
using a modern display like lcd or plasma it's less important what U use. A modern Display scales the picture these days.

Whatever you use it's fun watching laserdiscs in this age 8-)

we ll i took both players this week and hook it up to my 50" kuro plasma and the end result is that the cld-925 has a slightly better picture, and has a faster turn system. but i do like the looks better of the dvl9 series :)
