Anybody had any experience with one of these? It looks like a CLD-D604 without the karaoke feature (save for a mystery board along the top brace).
I'd be curious if anyone has owned one or knows if there's anything "special" about this model.

Thanks all :P

I have not personally worked on one but from what others have said it is about where you put it in performance. It does not have the newer advanced filtering like the units after it.

I had one for a little while in Japan. It was the entry model in the last round of LD players maintained by Pioneer. Upgrading to the LD-S9 was a significant improvement. I think the CLD-R7G would also prove to be a better player.

A little more "fussing" today and comparing it seems to be a gold version of the CLD-D606. Doesn't have the rapid side change gearing like the R7G.
Thanks for the input fellows

Yeah, it looks like a dead ringer to my CLD-D606. It's interesting that the R5 has a different remote (w/o a jog-wheel, I think it's the same one as the CLD-D406) than the D606. Perhaps that's due to its place on the Japanese model lineup as compared to the US lineup.

On an side note, the CLD-R5 model (and its big brother, the CLD-R6G) was advertised in the LE theatrical program of Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death and Rebirth.
