| Post subject: | CLD-D605 vs. CLD-D503 |
Hello everyone! Last week, I bought a CLD-D503 with 25 movies for $90 shipped. I thought I got a pretty good deal, but then I found a CLD-605 with 47 movies, and won that one as well for a little under $100 shipped! I would have bought just the lot of movies for that price, so the player was basically a freebie. I'm just curious if anyone knows; which one should I set up? Any difference in video/audio quality between the two? Any and all help would be appreciated, thanks! |

I'd say definitely set up the 605. You have more options on it for sound, since it has the optical and AC3 outputs both. Eventually you can get an AC3 demodulator and enjoy Dolby Digital 5.1. In the meantime you can enjoy DTS and Dolby Surround through the optical output providing you have an amp/receiver that can handle it. Other than that, I suppose you can try each one to see which you prefer. |

You want the 605. It has all the audio business going on. Other than that there isn't much difference between the players. The 500s are better built than the 600s though, or at least it seems that way when you look inside. The 503 will make a nice back-up player. |

Thanks for the advice, but I don't actually have a surround setup, so I'm not quite sure whether or not any of the audio features would really serve much of a purpose to me. Any other features that make the 605 a better product? |

i only have a 2 channel setup but my player has all the audio outs. since you got them both cheap i would just test them side by side to see which you like better to control etc. and then keep the other one since you didn't pay that much for it. i like the jog shuttle on players but my player is too new and they didn't make one on mine. i've never had either of the players you have, but if i kept one out to play i would use the jog shuttle D503 it's fun to use. |

Since you are a 2 channel person, I highly recommend that you try a Hughes brand SRS processor. Unlike the current SRS system, the 2 Hughes units are true audiophile units - even The Absolute Sound and The Perfect Vision used them. And the AK-100 and Hughes Retriver (without the display) can be bought cheaply on eBay. The effect is amazing and not at all fake since the processes uses only the natural spatial cues in the audio and adds nothing synthetic. |

Any other features that make the 605 a better product? In that case I would use the 500 series since its more durable. My 604 came with the best Pioneer remote CU-CLD114 but my 503 came with a crappy little one. Pioneer remotes are almost %100 universal among the players, so pick whichever remote you like the most. Whichever one you put in storage, make sure you fire it up every once in a while to keep things from getting stuck. |

In addition to the audio extras that the 605 has, it also has Digital Frame Memory which the 503 doesn't have. So you can freeze fram your CLV discs. |

My main audio passion in quad is the Fosgate Tate II 101A SQ Surround decoder which uses true analog multipliers in the Matrix Multiplier section to enhance the separation of the SQ Quad Matrix. |

You'll find the 503 is more substantial mechanically however the 605 has more features. Plus the 605 won't suffer from disc slip as the rubber on the disc table is not a "stick on" mat like the 503 type chassis uses. The 605 rubber won't harden like the 503 will. In any case it is a good idea to break out the back up player every now and again and load and spin a disc just so it doesn't get tired |

Incidentally you can use a jog shuttle remote with any compatible player, there are no players that do or do not "support" jog shuttle. |
