Hi, im interesed to get a nice laserdisc player, but im newbie in this. I found this ProScan PSLD43 What do you think about this? or any other good recomendation? Im searching a good option to use with LCD (Svideo maybe?) have AC3 (optical output) and this one proscan get this, but im not sure if this one is a good option. Now try to get NTSC/PAL compatible, but this option i think is a bit hard. Thx for your time

Don't know much about that ProScan player. Looks like it might be a Pioneer rebadge (maybe a 3090?) I did notice one thing I had never seen before on an LD player--a button on the front says "16x9." Have no idea what that would do, but it certainly is intriguiging. Also has dual side play and a TOS Link digital out, which are always pluses. Seems to be a decent player, from the looks of it. Would be worth a shot in getting if you know it works and can get it for a decent price (wouldn't really pay more than US$100 since there are lot of questions about it.) |

As far as PAL/NTSC compatible players, I've always read that the best are the Pioneer CLD-D925 and DVL-909/919, but I've never actually used them. Maybe some other member here with those units can help you out there (I know they both have AC-3 output.) |

Hi, thx for reply about pal i can ommit, is not really important..i see too a CLD-D503, and 909..not sure what i get hehe proscan is like 50 US, but like you say is like not a common used player. The only good thing i see is the svideo, optical not sure if this one have support of ac3. Greets! |

The 16x9 switch inserts a 5volt signal on the S-video output to tell a widescreen television that the signal is anamorphic and to unsqueeze it. When the ProScan player was made RCA was making widescreen sets and it was thought anamorphic discs would become commonplace - which didn't happen because they were not compatible with 99.999% of televisions then. |

One model had full digital FX. They don't have the digital video NR of later players and are OK but not great. |

If you want a spiffy front plate that is nicer to look at, then go for the CLD-79. The CLD-D704/CLD-79/CLD-99 line of players for the most part have the same internals. The D704 is the base player. The 79 has the nice "urishi" black face of an elite player. The 99 has the rosewood side panels and a 1st generation (outdated by today's standards) 2D/3D comb filter. The Proscan players are actually good entry level players as they are all good quality Pioneer clones, most of them clones of the CLD-D5xx series, and usually less costly. Your Proscan is one of the 'higher' level Proscans, if it has AC3 it would be a D504 clone I'd say, unless it also has optical output which is even better. Same for Mitsubishi regarding being Pioneer clones. I actually have both a Proscan and a Mitsubishi on craigslist. http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/ele/3199246048.html You also might consider one of the better Panasonic players, like LX 600, LX H670 & 680, LX 900u, LX 1000. There's been a really nicely written comparison of these Panny players here on the forum. |

My main piece of advice would be to always buy Pioneer, or at least one of the lightly rebadged Pioneer clones from Proscan, Marrantz, etc. |
