Some of you may recall I ran some tests about a year ago to compare the CLD-D925 with the HLD-X9 when it comes to playing a laserdisc that suffers from laser rot:
viewtopic.php?f=23&t=560&hilit=compare+laser+rot

The conclusion was the HLD-X9 does not hide rot and never did. It will actually read the rot that some other players cannot detect and this can result in displaying more speckles on screen if a disc suffers from laser rot.

So I was interested to hear from someone recently who owns an HLD-X0 that they were claiming their HLD-X0 is really good at hiding rot.
Are they talking through their hat or is there a difference in an X9 and X0 when it comes to playing LDs that suffer from rot?

i don't own this player, but when i had the PR-7820 and the CLD-3070 the PR-7820 played rot discs better with
coax compared to S-video.

they were both played on a CRT set years ago.
i think the CLD-3070 and the CLD-R7G were pretty close to the same level of visible rot, the R7g may have been
slightly better at covering up but not by much.

but to get back to your original question, i too would love to hear about the X0

Yes, not just speckles either. The black specks I can see in my Pioneer CLD-D925 on some older laserdiscs with laser rot (from minor to advanced), in many cases for the minor laser rot, the specks aren't there, for the advanced laser rot, it's greatly reduced. I can't comment on the X9, as I don't have one, but with HLD-X0 it can make a big difference.

Hi Astro - could you post some pictures of the difference you see between playback of a rotted disc on your CLD-D925 and the HLD-X0.

Thanks.

The older gas laser machines are probably the best. Otherwise the red laser machines like the X9 and X0 may or may not hide the speckles but they can track the LD and keep playing usually longer than the other LED laser players.
