The Pioneer LCV-330 is an auto changer that holds 72 laserdiscs, and originally cost nearly $10000. I can remember seeing one of these huge boxes on a home theater show in the 90's, but I would imagine that most of these changers were used as broadcast video libraries and in high end karaoke setups. I guess you would have to strap it to a pallet if it needed to be sent out for service, and the mechanics to handle 12 inch discs must be impressive. Still, one of these would eliminate disc changes with even the largest of CAV box sets |

And do NOT get your fingers in the wrong place when the mechanics are working. You'll come back less fingers |

You'll come back less fingers I have seen videos of big automatic tape libraries in action, and these things move really fast and you can see how there are some nasty pinch points in between all of that jerky motion, and these LD changers seem quite similar beasts. Real finger traps. |

There's a lot of way to lose fingers on machinery, especially when you're young, inexperienced and not thinking right. I lost a fingernail in a 64 Ford fan blade due to a dumb move. The nail actually saved the finger tip and the fan blade was bent almost 45 degrees from normal. |

It had to be amazing to have one of these changers in a home theater back in the 90s. Today it is taken for granted that you can have a library of videos available for instant play, by just selecting a video downloaded onto a HTPC or streaming. It must have been the coolest thing in the 90s to whip out one of those big LCD touchscreen remotes, and select a LD to watch out of 72 titles, all from the comfort of your chair. A big 90s home theater would have had a Faroudja LD100 line doubler at over $10k in cost, and a 9 inch CRT projector at something like $40k, so ten thousand for the LCV-330 wouldn't phase such a big spending HT enthusiast |
