Hallo

I live in France and i would like to know if there is any good technician in France to fix my X0.
I already talked to Mr. Duncan at Laserdisc Service and he was very helpful, but the rates to ship it to USA are HUGE   :wtf:

I see his reputation to be the best to work on laserdisc players, specialy Pioneer X0, but maybe somebody from here knows anyone.

Steve

i don't know anyone in France, but i do know someone in Holland.
But first of all, what is wrong with the player ? does it need alignment, cleaning, or new parts ?

Tank you for your help
The Player plays NTSC Laserdiscs fine, but when i put a Muse...the problem comes.

I played 2 NTSC laserdiscs and everything perfect, and when i went to play a HIVISION HD DISC and first it did was like this:

- The disc starts to spin, then it stops and gives F6 ERROR;

Second try:

- The disc starts to spin and plays ok.

Third try:

- The disc starts to spin, stops and gives U1 ERROR

Fourth try:

- The disc starts to spin and gives F5 ERROR..

After this and lots of tries, gives now everytime U1 ERROR, but only on HIVISION, not NTSC.

If i play NTSC regular discs it plays great, no issues.

What do you think it is?

That person in Holland is as good as Laserdisc Service?

Tank you

I hope these help. I've never tried them myself. I suspect they are expensive. Any suggestions of independents in the UK would be most welcome.

I can vouch for that one. I had several CLD-925's repaired by them.
Last I had heard though (and this was a few years ago) they could not service anything older than a DVL909/919.

Thanks for the corroboration.

The model restriction is bizzarre however. Surely there must be dozens of common parts between the DVL909/919 and (say) the D925... This is precisely the sort of reason that an independent operator would be preferable.

Hummm, i prefer not to take my chances with those Pioneer service centers. They usually dont take care of the equipment like i want. For them a laserdisc player is a piece of garbadge and they dont care if they scratch it.
Besides many people have complaints of how bad they align the lasers.

And sevicing a DVL is a bit diferent than an X0.

But thank you for the reference.

Actualy i have an offer from Ricardo and i am thinking if its best to sell or fix it.

I have read some comments here and i dont want to involve my self in those "dirty laundry" talk because i know him, and he never did anything wrong to me, and i dont believe on the other guy from holland to be honnest. Like the other guy said, its easy to talk on distance.
I was with Ricardo in 2 or 3 expositions of HIFI in Lisbon and hes not like that.
He told me the story, and here everyone can have a diferent opinion.

Again as for my X0 i will also call today another person and will try to have a solution.

You are probably right that it is uneconomic to repair an X0 these days if you live in Europe.

As for Cararte, if he is crazy enough to buy a broken X0 then it might sense to sell it to him.
Not sure how he will get it repaired given his name is 'mud' in the laserdisc world but do you care.

well, if carate is really a good stand up guy where is he?
just contacts people in private and let's others post stuff about him?

i've never had any deals with him but i never will.
if there is no contact then he is a bad buyer/seller.

but if you don't think you will get ripped off selling to him do it.
or why not on ebay?

U1 is a miss clamp error! nothing really serious... Did the player get shipped or moved around recently? Has it been stored away for years ?
a new loading belt might do the trick...
I have a manual around somewhere that describe the error codes.

My personal experience with ld players is that they often display an error code when nothing really serious is broken. Got them al working in the end just with cleaning the spindle motor , replacing loading belt and greasing up parts that move around in the player. Cleaning the lens with soms alcohol can do the the trick sometimes when a disc is no longer recognized.
I never worked on a muse player (and probably never will) but it the end I'm sure it's basic mechanics that can be repaired with soms basic knowledge .

Hope you get it up and running again. I'm sure someone around the Forum can help out . Kurthis Bahr perhaps..? Duncan? they are the true magicians

Not a good idea to use alcohol to clean the lens. There is a bluish coating on the lens surface and any type of solvent used runs the risk of removing some of the coating...

and so we learn every day... :o

thanks for the tip. i'll keep that in mind :)
Always used a small amount of alcohol along with water... all players functional after years of storage. I keep them running once in a while. I don't want them to get lazy
I wouldn't dream of drowning the laser in alcohol anyway

Tanks for the help Kris.
However i will leave this job for the magician Duncan, i believe that there is something else as it gives me Errors F5 and F6 too.
I am a little afraid to touch this unit inside. Besides when it comes from Duncan its prepared to run for long years to come. :))))

Duncan it goes to you in couple of days, its decided   When they pick it up (ouch my back) i will send you the details and all that stuff.

I can see why you're not keen to pop the hood on such a lovely player. You've made a wise decision. I'm sure Duncan can repair it.

Good luck and keep us posted please
