So I've had 4 players so far; an LDV2200 an LDV2400 a CLD 1080 and a CLD D503. The industrial ones have been solid and reliable but the other ones have given me trouble. The 1080 which i have since sold was pretty good, the only problem it had was the 4 second wait for the tray to open, which isn't too big a deal. The 503 though, I've had alot of problems with, most of which have to do with belts. I love industrial players for there rock solid sturdyness but I want a player with atleast some advanced features. So which players had the best of both worlds? (I don't want to end up like gbpxl lol)

This is a very good question that I unfortunately do not have the answer to. It seems if you want AC-3 you pretty much have to have a player that is quite flimsy compared to earlier units, or spend $300-1000 on certain Elite models.

Yeah, the industrial models are great for the build but don't have all the newer features. In fact, I found the industrial Sony models to be super players, way better than the later Sony's. But Sony only made one industrial player that would flip sides, the MDP-1700AR, good video reproduction and solid build, reliable and remote capable, but only has analog audio output though you can choose analog/digital tracks.

If you are looking for a decent-priced but really sturdy player that is built to last and also quiet with most modern features then the Panasonic LX-1000u and LX-200 match that. I've always liked the LX-1000u for it's great-looking and solid digital freeze frame features and quiet operation, and mine have always been reliable. The 200 is no slouch either. They do have optical sound outputs. I recently had a couple who looked at an LX-1000u vs a DVL-700 vs a CLD-d702 on my Pioneer elite TV, and they picked the 1000u after testing all functions. They wanted a really quiet and sturdy player, and that was the quietest.

Other than that, I'd go for a DVL player just because they are newer builds, have really good video and all the best audio features, but you may not like the idea of the addition of a DVD laser assembly and the extra complexity of that.

Good day rixrex, signofzeta & yazorin,

I enjoyed reading your post's
Yes the expense of the good players, a trial to purchase and trust me on this as I used to work 84hrs a week in order to purchase them but it's worth the effort.

I must admit that I do not use the DVD section of the combi players and bought these for laserdisc only.

These days I do not earn the money I used to and so have to be more patient in my purchases, and on top of that I now have the added responsibility of running a home of my own, of which also reduced my disposable income.

I am sure you guys have your own pressures to deal with but if you can purchase the higher qualtiy LD hardware then it's worth the effort.

Sincere Regards

 :D

The cld-3080 is the best non elites and it has the noise reduction D-EXT button like on the x9 or xo players. Very few knew as its hidden on the slide out remote on the front lower player. Reliable, and I always sold these with ac3 installed. Some say its the best CD playback player due to the high quality Dacs. Duncan usually has these, Im down 1 and a 1/2 3080, (don't ask be about the 1/2 3080 :) little dissapointed when I bought it to restore another 3080 for cosmetics reasons for a good LD enthusiast.

The LD-s1 was always solid player, I own 2 and sold the original box one to a collector in Germany. It was there first reference player, then the Ld-s2 came after.

Some say the picture is softer, but it justs all depends.

Just a little insight, I don't like to get bias about anyone player and a lot has to do with hook up and how good your LD collection pressings are.
