So I bought a large lot of Laserdiscs, and to my surprise the owner through in a CLD-D504. "Supposedly" it doesn't work, so I may have to take it apart and see if I can figure you what's wrong with it. Anyway, I have couple of questions:

1) What is a the going rate for a "working" CLD-D504?

2) Anybody have any experience with the picture quality of this unit? I use a CLD-97 so I'm not expecting it to be that good, but should I expect a good picture?

3) Any common problems with this unit that I should be aware of when trying to fix it? I plugged it in, the trays (both CD and LD) open, the disc spun up when I hit play and the digital counter for time started counting during the play. I haven't had a chance to hook it up to a TV, who knows, maybe it's working even though the previous owner said it didn't?

Try flipping it over to Side B and see what happens. If it has a problem the cost of the repair would be more than the value of the player. Softer picture than the 97 but fine for a mid line player.

I think $75 is a fair price for a nice, clean fully operating one. Picture is pretty decent on those, good enough for plenty of folks to use as their main player.

You have to check the side B operation, though I expect it to be okay on the 504. That's because it uses the U-track style of laser assembly turn rather than the spinner style, more reliable. You may notice the back hump is a tad smaller that other models.

Definitely check it hooked to the TV and see if there's any problem. I have seen players work just fine in all ways except that the video and/or audio output was the problem.
