Hello everyone,

I saw some listings today and not sure if they're any good or not. First I see a DVL-909 for $120, then I see a DVL-700 for $100, although it has issues and needs repair.

Now I can't really afford either at their current price, but I always could try and haggle them. My current player is a CLD-D502 and I am happy with it since it plays both sides. I heard these combination units don't really offer the best LD quality and can cut out some playback features, etc. Is this true? Are there any big drawbacks of the 909 or 700?

Should I pass these by and just hope to find a nicer model one day? I don't really need a new player, but it's fun to look... :)

Thanks,
-Steven

I've never seen him so excited. He was as giddy as a schoolboy. :) Believe me, I know the feeling.
Hard to resist isn't it.....
Like Indy's father said at the end of The Last Crusade....

"Let it go...."

More mechanics involved and a prehistorical dvd part.... :|

Maybe if you could get them cheap it's worth a try for science sake

I consider the 909 a better player of the two (909 and 700). Now will the picture be any better than your 502, I doubt it. You would get a picture with stills and during scanning with the 909.

Thanks for the reply kris! I appreciate the Last Crusade reference :D I have no interest in trying to fix an LD player, especially one that has an outdated DVD player combined with it.

I didn't buy them (or even contact them). I'm pretty pleased with my current player. I was watching an LD the other day and to my eyes it looked almost just as good as a DVD. So I think unless I come across a very good deal (under $50) on a good player I'll pass. I have at least 4 spare players in storage that work well in case I need a backup.

krbahr Thanks for the advice. I think the picture quality of my player is pretty good to. But without a "better" model to compare it to I guess I assumed there could be an improvement (maybe). However I'm very happy with it now.

Thanks for the advice!

Happy to help out. :)
It's true that a d502 can display a good picture. I never understood the fuzz about "high end" models. I owned a few, sold a few and earned a few.
Sure they are a stronger make and can make a difference but to be honnest with all technology available on today's electronics it's a less important factor owning 'high end" player(s)
to be honnest when I used the dvl-h9 or cld-hf9g I came to think "our situation has not improved"
enjoy the format is my advice regardless what machine you use.
