New member here, great site. I have been watching LD's for many (too many!!) years and recently had to pull my M401 out of service due to audio issues (distortion).

Have picked up a D504 in pristine condition and a D606 in good to excellent condition. My question is which would you experts (!) view as the better player??

Only have watched a couple of screens with either, but at this time not on the same TV. D606 seems to be a bit noisier, maybe slightly better picture (again not on same TV), and has a nicer looking display (higher resolution?). D504 seems a bit quieter in it's loading, side change, and a bit faster changing sides. Noise difference could be due to the D504 being in a shelving unit, and at this time the D606 is out in the open on top of a Fisher console.

I know that these are not the lusted after D704 or an elite, but are good enough for me at this time!! But always looking for a scroe!!!

Any comments appreciated, and look forward to more interaction on this forum.

Well, swap their places and see what that does.

I have the 504 and a 604, not 606. I think the 606 is karaoke model, or maybe that's only the 605?

The 504 has a U-track turn system, noted for being very quiet. Maybe the 606 does not? I'm not certain.

Doesn't the 606 have digital still frame features? The 604 does and the 504 doesn't. I would expect a same platform player that's a year newer model to possibly have some enhancements giving a better picture, or it could just be those players themselves.

A properly 504 and 606 will pretty much look the same. The difference is the digital memory in the 606 to give you a picture on still. step and scan modes.

Same mechanical system in both.

Thanks for the info, will be doing a side by side tomorrow on one tv and see how they compare. The 504 has karaoke, the 606 does not, somewhat cleaner, simpler front end.
