Has anyone owned this first LD/CD Player from 1984/1985?
If you have can you give the insight on how it sounded with audio CDs

I picked one up from ebay a few years ago, it needed the updated swingbelt kit for the pulleys. Me and my Father were sorting out the 40 some players I had used for parts and what not and it went into the dump without my knowledge. :( Has some of you know from the older forum groups that I restored these older models close to new inside & outside and perform all adjustments to factory standards.

It came out right after the first diode laser optic player LD-700 which I own and its the cleanest one I have seen with remote, manual.

Then the 900 came out

I still have the cld-909 cd/laser not the best PA but all emblems restored.

So, if anyone has cld-900, please share your experiences with me and others on the auto playback on CD.

Thanks very much, Duane, MI

The cld-900 has 2 motors. My cld-1010 has 2 motors as well. The CD moves to the far back of the player where the second motor spindle pops up to play it. All the players after the 1010 used just 1 motor.

I've seen a few cld-900 on e-bay but prices usually
high, and because of the heavy weight of the player shipping to Canada is expensive.

The 900 has harsh audio - it uses a single DA converter, time multiplexed between the channels and a non-oversampled analog brick wall filter stage, leading to major high frequency phase shift and a rough, fatiguing sound. Pioneers first digital players were well below the state of the art in sound quality for the time.

What I meant to say is that the cld-900 was very complex inside and it would be a challenge for me to do a replacement on the optics and spindle and the adjustments.

The one I had needed the Belt kit that Pioneer revised, but no longer available..

I was planing just to restore it to for a collectible with the LD700,

That would be cool because it's a real "LaserVision Landmark" player in every way. Performance-wise, it's the LD-700's video performance with digital audio quality circa 1979. But, I'm every way, a major achievement on Pioneer's part. I have the huge booklet/brochure for the 900 and Pioneer really had their work cut out for them in the players design. It's also the only consumer CD player that uses mirrors for tracking and also allows the optics carriage to tilt on warped CD's, which they removed from all later players.

Any chance you'd like to donate the restored player to our LaserVision Landmarks website? It's one player that neither I, Tony or Ron have ever owned and would make for a great full write up on the site as well as video of the player - along with a downloadable PDF copy of the brochure.
