Hello, I have been testing a 919 I got sometime time ago I have no idea about its past. Tonight about 20 minutes into watching a laserdisc it stopped all of a sudden & the drawer opened. I don't know if there was a power glitch in the house or what happened so I started it over & it played through the second try. What are your thoughts I test a player to make sure it is ok before I hook up another.

Anytime I buy another LD player I always run through a set of basic tests to confirm everything is OK.

Check :
all sizes of laserdiscs (5", 8", 12") it supports play ok.
all types of other 5" discs (CDs, DVDs, VCD etc) it supports play ok.
side change works (if it supports that) and test multiple times to see how reliable it is.
audio (left/right) and volume levels are clear.
picture is stable and clear.
functions on remote works.
digital memory pause on CLV disc if it supports that.
pause on CAV disc.
buttons on front panel work and all lights illuminate as expected.
check AC-3 audio if it support works.

If all that passes it is probably ok!
I've done that with all 18 of my LD players when they were just purchased and retest occasionally if they have been in storage for a while to confirm they are still operational.

I've had something like this happening once with my previous onkyo receiver
I discovered the remote for another device was to blame.
My onkyo displayed somekind of a service menu ...
It displayed some code for the speaker setup menu.
Unplugged it immediatly and that was that!
I was really like :eh:

Never had this with a ld player. Always the chance it received a remote control command from an external device...
I found the remote for my HD-XA1 hdddvd player sometimes works by itself. It has a motion sensor making the buttons illuminate and on rare occasions it suddenly decides to send a command to my player. These days I store the RC in a drawer so it won't disturb my player
That remote is so large and heavy you can beat someone to death with it anyway :lolno:
Programmed my sr-7007 RC for every device meanwhile. Works

Anyway, this is my experience with sudden unexpected behavior with equipment
Electronics can be challenging sometimes....
