Hello everyone new guy here I just bought the player listed above for just under $17. from the bay and it should be here soon.It was listed that the tray won't open and some minor damage but hopefully it's an easy fixer upper. Is this a good player worth keeping or just fix it and sell?.I also found listings for two movies for $8.00 and picked up Judge Dredd and The Fifth Element(Pioneer discs)as I need a disc to test the player with.I use to own a LDP back in the mid 90's,it was a silver pioneer and pretty basic I don't remember the model. It was hooked up to a 19" Sony and the pq looked good but now I'll be hooking up this 3030 to a Sony 46" lcd and I can compare T.F.E on dvd to the laserdisc version. We'll see maybe I'll start collecting laserdisc's as I do still buy vinyl and people say laserdisc looks better then dvd.

good to hear from you. i don't know anything about that player, but it might or might not be an easy fix. there may not be too much value but any player working is worth it if you ask me! so when you get it if htere are problems you can post pictures and someone should be able to tell you what to fix on it.

I have owned my 3030 since 2006 and it has the ac3-3 out added, a solid single sided player. I even traded it off once and he traded back to me to try another player. I have repaired 1 3030 as the laser optics slider rail broke off, which is common with these and other models if shipped hard. I hope that not the case with yours, as the part is NLA, it was one of Pioneers best non Elite single sided models with a picture quality as a 3070, just a tad softer picture.
Please keep us up to date on your 3030 when you get it!!
Duane

that's what i want to hear!! O.K. the picture is soft, if you want a better picture then get ready to spend 750+ let's get with it people, all players are not bad, and it all depends on what you are going to do with it. you will get better results from better players but for some is it worth the risk did i just do that all that really matters in the end is: 1- are you "Watchting" LDs 2- are you "Enjoying" LDs and when i say any player working is worth it, you have to rememeber, not everybody is making 800K+ a year and just wants to enjoy it, also if anybody forgot they don't make discs or players anymore so enjoy like a good wine once you gulp it's gone and that should make you happy

I'm changing WWRD to WWRS (say) It's a dead format, accept that and enjoy the way it works instead of picking it apart. I for one fall into the enjoy watching LDs category. I don't pick out the flaws, I just like spinning the big disc and watching the movie If you can make the 3030 work it's a good starting point

thanks to LDservice and grasshopper close subject is my 1960s record player. i know that my record player is not as good as the ones they offer for 15 thousand but i can hear the records, it's value is around 60 bucks and i paid 20. the main thing is that it's not about value, it's about a working nice looking nice sounding record player. sure you can spend money to listen to your 2 dollar goodwill records but will that 15G make it sound any better? just like the LDs, when i buy 2 dollar discs it makes me just as happy playing it in my 503, r7g or if i took it from my father the 3070. i'm happy when i watch movies, which i should be doing now rather than typing

Even though my family owned a video rental store from 1980 until 1988 there were things like Shure surround decoders that my parents wouldn't buy for me - and in the 90's very expensive LaserDisc players like the EAD TheaterVision or Runco LJR were out of my reach - and I can get them now for trades or prices that I can afford on my Social Security Disability income - I can 'play' now without expending huge sums of money - although my partner says it makes our house look like the electronics dept in a Goodwill store! (his HO Scale model trains are all over the place too, so he cant complain!) The one thing I dearly want and know I'll never find, at least not in good working condition, is one of the Mitsubishi 50-inch big screens that were a one piece front projection unit with a pull out mirror and had doors that covered the screen when not in use - they looked like a beautiful hutch when closed up. Mitsubishi made that model until 1988 and even added S-Video inputs on their last model before they switched to rear projection completely. Those were the best NTSC big screens ever made - they even had full bandwidth color demodulators and FM stereo tuners built in for FM simulcast stereo that some cable companies utilized.

disclord wrote: Is the 3030 the awesome looking player that has a jog dial and other buttons in a slide out drawer on the front panel? That's such a cool idea and one Pioneer should have kept in the line, especially Elite models. You're thinking of the 3080. It would have been more "cool" if they had used a better latch to hold the drawer locked into the player. Cheap latch and no fun to replace. It's one of those "lets install this latch part and then build the player around it"
