Well finally got it today and what a mess :(

I opened it and found the shaft for the laser laying in the back  After getting it apart I found several broken pieces. The hoops on the laser were broke and on the laser leveling setup one hoop was broke, the stud for the leveling motor and a tab that keeps the other shaft in place(the one that moves the laser)were broke. And one of the post for the laser sliding shaft was broke off too but luckily somehow all the pieces where still there :P .After figuring out where the parts went I glued everything back together all is good there.

Now it loads but it won't spin the disc.So I tried cleaning the laser and saw one of the small wire connections that move it up and down was broke so I fixed that and it moves up and down like should.

When it loads a disc the tray goes down then back up then back down,is that normal?

Any ideas what to check on why it wont spin the disc? The laser moves back and forth and I can see the red laser light. There's a sensor next to laser that I assume tells it there's a disc(maybe bad?)and I'm pretty sure it also tells if the disc is spinning because if I spin the disc by hand then hit open it won't open until it the disc stops.

wow, glad that you fixed part of it so far.
60 min epoxy is your friend, works like a charm and holds great too!!
i don't know much about repairs on LD players but someone will help you out.
good luck with it!

When the laser went up and down it was trying to get a reflection from the disc. So I'm guessing it thinks no LD is installed so either the laser is bad or the electronics. As you got no reflection back to start the play process most likely

Just to add the loading tray on the cld-3030 (and also on the cld-1030) does go down, then back up, and then back down again. Probably as an alignment thing to be sure the disc is properly centered.

Keep at it though  and hopefully you get it playing. Have you tried a cd in it?

If a wire for the focus coil was broken (and given all the other broken parts) I'd guess the lens got bent and won't focus properly. No focus, no disc spin.

I tried a CD with the same results. It probably needs a laser pickup and it looks like finding another working player for cheap like the Pioneer LD-V2200 that uses the same laser is this things only chance. There's a NOS one on Ebay for $175.00 lol I don't think so.

I can't find pictures of the insides of these players that use the same laser to see if they use the same transport which would be the easiest swap as it's just four screws.

Pioneer CLD-1030
Pioneer CLD-3030
Pioneer LD-V2200
Pioneer LD-W1
Pioneer LD-V180
Pioneer LD-V350
Pioneer LD-V800

yes, but you might be better off finding either another 3030 and use the one you have now for parts.
or get one on ebay working that will be around 50-70 with shipping, it would be a lower quality but you might
luck out and get a better quality player for that range.

OR you can always spend more and get a top of the line player but i would say those are your options if
the laser on yours is bad now.

Remember, now you have all the mechanical adjustments to do when you swap lasers special tools different test discs for certain procedures to elinate crosstalk. It becomes a half day job to get the player to play like new again. I spent a lot of training myself on the 3030 chassis and 909 chassis. Its fun for me, but maybe not for others.....

Good luck

I did toss all my industrial players away they shared the laser but not the spindle section and the guides were thicker,
