Anyone using a Harmony Remote instead of the original remote for the player? I have to since I don't have the original remote nor do I have the model number for the remote to get one. I forgot the Harmony Remote model number that I'm using (380?..not sure) but I can't get all the functions of the CLD-79 to work. Has anyone got all the functions working from the Harmony Remote? The database shows almost everything but I can't figure out how to program it so I can play the Halloween TV version on the Criterion release. there's other things I don't remember at the moment so I'll have to check this weekend.

I have a Harmony 650 and I use it with my CLD-D704. It does replicate all of the functions, but when searching the online database for the Harmony remote, I had to actually use CLD-704 rather than D704. If I wrote in D704, it wouldn't respond. But when I put in CLD-704, it worked and now I have full compatibility.

Try what he used--CLD-704--since the CLD-D704 and CLD-79 are basically the same player.

I did that and it didn't work only the CLD-79 would work as the model number though I do have limited capabilities with a D-VHS VCR and a Pioneer receiver which I think could be the remote though the IR receiver could be messed up though too I don't know.

I've got a Harmony 880 which I love, and am using it for my RCA which I acquired without a remote. I had to program it for the RCA, which was not difficult as I recall. Sorry, don't remember the model number of the RCA, and would have to pull it out of the entertainment rack to get it off the back. But at any rate, you should be able to get the programming instructions off the Logitech website...which I had to do last time I had to program it 'cause I misplaced the user guide...

I thought you just hook it up to the computer and use the program and that's it. so there is more to that then? I'll look and see. BTW its a 520.

OK, so my memory was faulty...I had to go check things out because I couldn't remember what I did last time I had to change settings on my 880...you're right, you need to download and install the Harmony Remote Software from the Logitech website, and when you run it, the program basically walks you through all the steps. But the answer to your original question is yes, I'm using the Harmony remote to control my LD player (an RCA LDR400, thanks to Harmony for reminding me) because I never did have the original remote. Anyhow, you should be able to add commands for your Pioneer CLD-79 by opening the Harmony software, choosing the CLD-79, and then click Settings in order to customize buttons.

I do have it so I can use it to some degree but when I press the function on the remote like eject it won't eject so I have to push the button on the player.
It acts like there's a signal from the remote and it works for some functions or buttons like display but not everything in the menu under the device on the remote.
I may have to update the firmware or call harmony and see what i can do. Maybe get a new one.

The CLD-79 is one of the few players I remember that the STOP and EJECT button were the same button on the remote, so that might have something to do with it. Having you tried hitting the STOP button again after it stopped to eject the tray?

I have a 79 and the Stop and Eject buttons are NOT the same. There is a Stop and an "Open/Close" one.
I use a Hamony One and everything worked great ~ Hope you find a code that works for you!
(Perhaps you should start it over, or it mapped to the wrong key?)
