I was perusing LD players (as I always do) and came upon something I had never seen before in an LD player. Check it out.....


Looks like a normal LD/CD Karaoke combo unit from the front panel.....


....but check out this crazy tray design to make it a quasi CD changer and auto reverse LD player.


Back panel is still the typical connections one finds w/ Karaoke units (bonus w/ AC3-RF Out but no Digital Out)



It appears from what I can see is that the B platter moves over on top of the A platter to swap positions between the two CD discs (odd that the B platter has no cutout for a 3" CD). And since this is a Video CD player, that does come in handy since most movies needed two CD discs.

Very cool, I can't justify another player now but hope someone gets a cool player in their collection.
Wonder if that A-B tray rotates rather than flip? or you would put disc A in and B upside down?

Seeing this cool find makes me wonder did anyone make a DVD player with the ability to play both sides without having to turn the disc over?

I'm thinking here specifically of those horrible double-sided discs that appeared now and again. I can think of two I owned straight away, Spinal Tap Criterion DVD and an Earache Records DVD. Loads more of course.

Also, Pioneer did make a twin tray CD player back in the day that looks very similar to this LD changer (totally forgot about this thing since their single and cardtridge players were more popular). Here is a sample from YouTube....

The variety in LD players produced never fails to amaze me. At first I assumed this was like that Sony unit that can play an LD and a CD at the same time and can mix the audio but…nope, it’s a totally different thing.
