So my truck broke down and I had to shell out $1500 for repairs. To help pay for it, I sold my CLD-R7G on ebay for US$700 (not bad considering I paid ~US$500 to get it from Japan--including shipping.)

I am having some sellers' remorse though. It's been in my HT setup since '05 and been a reliable player with a nice picture.

I also shouldn't be so worried as I'm now using the Runco LJR-I that got off of Craigslist in its place now (all told, a much better player when used in conjunction with the 3D comb filter in my WEGA TV.)

Am I just being stupid or am I really going to miss that LD-G function?

i had thoughts about selling mine in the past.
but decided against it and am still enjoying it ever day :D
700 is a good price, last one i saw sold for 300 with 150 or 200 shipping from Japan, i can't remember that part now :(

Well, the bottom line is you can't drive your laserdisc player to the store :D

don't think i'd be able to part with my 3030 like that... then again, even in it's fantastic condition, i think i'd be quite lucky if it fetched the smallest fraction
of what your R7G commanded.

now, my PD-91 CDP on the other hand... that could very easily command at least that much,
particularly in view of the multitude of ways in which i have tricked it out.
all considered, i'd rather die than part with it, or at least contrive up an alternative, make-do form of transportation...

The R7G is sort of like an HLD-X9 Jr. and that's certainly not a trifle, but the Runco LJR-I looks like a very reliable player too. It's cool to have something other than Pioneer at times (as long as it's of high quality) and it's easy to find a R7G from Japan at a reasonable price so I don't think you have to worry. I wouldn't sell my R7G though, I've got two other players that I could sell instead.

HLD-X9 is HLD-X0 Jr.
CLD-R7G is LD-S9 Jr.
CLD-D704 is CLD-99 Jr.
Panasonic LX-900U is Runco LJR I Jr.
DVD is LD Jr.

+1
Honestly, even if DVD is techically superior to Laserdisc (mostly at least) I rather watch a movie on Laserdisc than DVD.

This is very true! No LD player will get me to work every day

And I basically realized that I get a better picture with the Runco on my WEGA than I do with the R7G.

Before when I was using a 37" CRT Computer Monitor as my HT display, the R7G was needed since neither the monitor nor the line doubler I was using had worthwhile comb filtering. That NEC 3D comb filter in the R7G was something else.

I do have a plan though because I want to still be able to have LD-G capabilities (just for the novelty.) When I'm in better financial shape (possibly next year) I'm gonna import another LD player with LD-G. Most likely a CLD-HF7G (basically a CLD-79 with LD-G.)

Unless I finally get my hands on one of these!

Nah, it's more like the LD-S2 is the HLD-X0 Jr
CLD-D704 is the HLD-X9 Jr (since the more technical folks on this site seem to say the D704, 99, S9 and X9 have the same or similar composite output--but I can't say for sure)
and DVD is redheaded stepchild of LD
