Does anyone have any info on the Pioneer CLD-1950 other than what's on the Laserdisc UK site here:

http://www.laserdiscarchive.co.uk/laser ... d-1950.htm

Unfortunately that page concentrates on a modification to the player, to add AC3 sound, and doesn't say what the player is like in other respects.

What I particularly want to know is if the picture quality and sound are good, also if it will play PAL discs that only have analog audio - some later players dropped this capability and will only play PAL discs with digital sound.

the cld-1950 is a great player. Not high end looking like a Japanese player but easy to maintain if needed.
Good video quality like a cld-2950. it has that great analoge look
I've owned a few 2950's over the years. To me, the 1950 is the same like a 2950 without dual side play!

in 1995 a shop in Belgium upgraded my 1950 with ac-3 rf output.
It never let me down.
it's a great cd transport
It has S-video out
Optical digital out (dts)
Composite out
2 x scart (non S-video)
The rf upgrade was done by Home Theatre Antwerp. A great shop at the time that is.
No autoreverse (but hey, it can't break either)
Sold it since I aquired way too many players trough the years.

Well, failed to win one on ebay UK, also a CLD-D2950, both of which ended this evening. Both times the price went up over the price I intended to enter faster than I could press the enter button. I think I am going to have to resign myself to the fact that there are serious collectors out there with MUCH bigger pockets than mine, and just hope that one turns up in a street market / boot fair / whatever at a price I can afford.

Seems like someone had already laid in a higher maxmium bid you could not reach.
I have run into those a couple of times. Could not understand how people could quickly outbid in a matter of seconds. :P
Then I learned about maximum bid.......
Lost many great auctions because of this, lessons learned.

What price did they sell for?

I've a couple of CLD-D2950 machines I bought 8 years ago. They are well built machines that produce better picture quality than all of the newer European models I've seen that came after. Only real downsides are they don't have digital memory for pausing CLV discs, have slow side change and most collectors want them so prices tend to be higher than buying a used 925 or 909 or 919 machines.

Both went around the £70 mark (about $133) - that isn't incredibly expensive, I know, but they were both buyer collect or courier which adds at least £10-£15, and I only bought my last player a couple of months ago; the only reason I want to change it is that it turned out to be a model that didn't support the early analog-only PAL discs, which means that I can no longer play a few discs. I've already replaced most of them with DVDs, but there are a few I can't replace.

To be honest, I'd sooner buy a good industrial laserdisc player provided it played analog diss - I'm not worried about automatic side changing, and they're much more reliable. I was mad to sell my CLD-V2300!

Sorry for resurrecting this old topic but recently I tried my PAL analogue only LD (Flight of dragons UK) before buying 1950 and got no sound at all. It showed "PAL" -> "Analogue" and then "No sound" on screen. Is there something wrong with my LD or CLD-1950 cannot produce analog sound from PAL discs?

I don't have any experience with PAL but there is something about discs with analog or digital audio only, or players with that only??
Please do a search about that to answer and help you on how to connect the LD player.

I've got a CLD-160K, which uses the same chassis and boards as the CLD-1950, and the manual says explicitly that it doesn't do analogue PAL audio ("Analogue audio of PAL system disc cannot be played back with this player")...

Post subject:  Re: Pioneer CLD-1950

my question was specifically for this (Pioneer CLD-1950) player, which I was about to buy but decided to check my PAL analogue disc prior.
I have this cartoon "Flight of dragons" which is PAL and has only analog audio in it. My current player (Pioneer CLD-S360) is NTSC only and I was looking for the best (price/quality) combo player available in my area. My options were 1950 and D515. According to kris's post in this thread, CLD-1950 is able to play PAL analog sound.
I came to the seller and we hooked his player with composite rca wires but didn't get any sound with this PAL disc. I also took with me one of my NTSC CLV digital/analog disc which played just fine.

atsampson my CLD-S360 too has exactly the same look as CLD1950. But the one I was going to buy is definitely a 1950 with european plug.
That's strange.

I confirm the 1950 does not support analog audio on PAL discs, if you need this feature you need the 2950, 925, 515, 909E or 919E
