The CLD-R5 face-plate resembles the CLD-406, but the front has a button for 'Fine Wide'. Does anyone know what 'Fine Wide' is? Two internet descriptions from previous ebay listings state, "Fine-wide image of cooked images even on wide screen" and "fine wide button to help make LaserDisc picture better". I'm not sure if I want my laserdisc images to look 'cooked' . In all seriousness though, does it allow a 16:9 display to be attached without a scaler? Or is it a sharpening filter? I appreciate the help.

If you have a widescreen TV set, especially in the days when anamorphic widescreen was not the norm, shouldn't you be able to stretch the picture on the TV itself? Wouldn't it make more sense to have the player generate black bars for squeeze titles so you can view them on a 4:3 set?

Do you know what method of contour applies to a 4:3 film on a 16:9 monitor, by chance? Thanks again.

I think that it is not a high-performance one that is so effective
Since there is contour correction in the instruction manual, I think that it is a sharpness effect This is exactly what I was looking for, thank you powerofld!
