This is an idea that cropped up at the end of another, different topic that was already 3 pages long. Some members thought the idea a good one as did I.

A "for sale" forum category for players and their accessories would take the onus out of just mentioning them haphazardly and hoping for the best, and give us a better place than ebay to list. No need to include laserdiscs since that's all taken care of in the main database by a member having a store there.

It's something the CED forum at CEDmagic just incorporated that seems to work well. I have sold several players to other CED group members with good results. Better results than any I sold elsewhere since I was dealing with people I know and trust, and who know the devices. Plus it has the added benefit of being able to post a photo, etc, and description.

Alternately, it is a feature that could perhaps be added to the LDDB stores, and allow Julien to collect a little bit on each player/remote/accessory sale to help support the database. I personally like the idea of somehow supporting the database and forum we all enjoy with a portion of the sale price. Just seems fair. Better that it goes here than to fatten the ebay and paypal coffers. Anyone else have some ideas on this topic?

I think it should perhaps be generalized further to "WTS" and "WTB"

Shouldn't this be in the "Category/Feature Requests" area? And anyway, "wanted to trade" has been left out.

I understand the plan is eventually to have players & accessories allowed in LDDb Shops, but that is awaiting the integration of those items in the database, which has been a long-term goal & problem.

I put it here because it grew out of a posting in this section, and I thought there probably would be more views and responses here as well.

Since it's an LDDB shops project that's awaiting future development, maybe there could be a forum category that could be used for now, something similar to the "repairs, etc" category that would incorporate sales, trades, and wanted, all together? I mean, each poster can start his or her own subject within the category.

In regards to helping support the LDDB, I suppose it would have to be an honor system if such a topic category existed.

Would this "trade section" (or whatever it'll be named) be it's own subforum (e.g. Laserdisc, Laserdisc players, "trade section", etc.) or be a subsection of a section (in the way that "MUSE decoders" is a subsection of "Laserdisc players")?

Also, I agree about having this topic in "LD Players," since there was a a topic like this in the request section already, but it died after two or three days.

That initial topic in the request section was mine, but it got sidetracked with comments about shipping and packing. Since my Dad passed away and we closed his shop, I have something like 30 laserdisc players that I don't need. Nearly all of them are in good working order. Plus there's several accessories, AC3 decoders, etc. So it's something I was interested in obviously.

I was able to list the 20 or so CED players on the CED website and several have gone to fellow collectors with positive results, but so far only 2 LD players have been sold. Even with the prices being rather low, there's just not a lot of exposure since I can't stand to use ebay. So this is something I have a stake in as I'd much rather take less for them than on ebay, save giving ebay/paypal money they really don't need (which can be up to 15 percent now!), have them go to good homes, and help support the LDDB with a donation out of each sale.

In lieu of having a way to put them in the LDDB stores, which isn't available right now, my thought was that a sub-topic in this section of Laserdisc Players (and related hardware equipments) could take care of everything having to do with sales, trades, freebies, items wanted, because each member can create a suitable thread for their own needs.

We could start of topic of for sale or wanted players or whatever it ends up being called. But I would have to have to repost all players I have at a periodic interval each time a player is sold or I get a new one. Always wondered why there is not a list for players on the site just like the LDs but I never asked.

There sort of is, but it's pretty bare and the "submission" option redirects to disc submission.
