In looking over Pioneer remotes to find one for a DVL player, I stumbled across the look-alike Pioneer Multi-Control Commander remote that was supplied with certain VSX series receiver/amps.
I picked one up out of curiosity just because the design was so similar to the DVL remotes. It arrived, and I was quite surprised to see it had device buttons allowing it to be used not only with most Pioneer receiver/amps, but also for DVD, LD, VCR, CD, TV and a couple of other things. Factory set for Pioneer models, it also allows input of codes to be set for other brands.
I made sure it was cleared back to Pioneer factory setting and gave it a test. The DVD button controls the DVL combo player just fine, and the LD button controls the regular Pioneer LD players all the way back to ones from the 80s.
Finally, a remote that will control the DVL and the regular LD player I have, set up all in one remote, and also my TV and receiver. Now I just need to locate a Pioneer VCR. In the meantime, it's set to the Mitsubishi VCR I have. (See, even with my support of Panasonic and Sony, I'm still a Pioneer fan in general)
Now, even though it looks like the DVL remotes, it is about 3/4ths the size and fits comfortably in the hand.
