I found this offline in a Goodwill for $50.

I tried playing a CD but the motor wouldn't spin up.

I passed since it wouldn't play CDs

where does this fall in the Panasonic line. Like is this very low end? It had an optical out.

I wouldn't sweat it, from what I remember Panasonics started with the 100 and went up to the 900 and 1000.
So the 200 is lower on the food chain, but since its not working all is good.

The LX-200 was definitely a low end model but not in same vein of being a total piece of junk.

When it came out, it was one of two models that Panasonic had released (the other being the high end LX-1000) and both had a pretty much identical chassis (which is why it was not junk since it had the same chassis as the 1000). The exception between the two models was that the 1000 had the digital field memory circuit for CLV special effects (including the jog-shuttle control) and a nifty flip door that hid extra controls. Both units were auto-reverse.

A few months to a year later, Panasonic then released the LX-101 which was their first single side play CD/LD player which in my opinion was a very well built machine (I had one for awhile and sort of regret letting it go) for an entry level piece.

Thank you for clarifying, I had a 900 and while it was nice I didn't think it was an over the top player that others were touting it to be.

Right now I feel that any working player is what we should be happy with.

Most of the Panasonics share the same laser pickup so 200s are good parts machines...
