It's obviously a Pioneer HLD-1000 clone but this one comes in black finish. HLD-1000 is a fine player based on the CLD-97. Proposed but never realized Runco LJR-HD was also based on the HLD-1000. The serial number ends with 0027, perhaps there was only 30 or 50 built(opps, I mean rebadged)

Based on the 97? I wouldn't be surprised if it was better than an X9.

HLD-1000 is missing the 3D comb filter and advance noise reduction. I am not even sure if it has the very basic dnr from 97. It probably has less noise natively anyway. For its composite output, its more promising than X9 for sure.

What is that tiny green cable with the red end piece on the right there?

Maybe a ground wire?

Yes, certainly ground (GND). Green/yellow are the standard colors for it, at least in Europe.

You see this often on equipment that doesn't have grounded plugs on them. Seen many old turn tables for vinyl records have them. Old enough that they're not grounded in the plug. It doesn't look stock, guess the previous owner must've added it. Not a bad idea, though.

Well, chasis is the ground, no need to open up the hood and stick out a wire like this. If he had some weird ground loop in his setup, common ground solves this. As samaron said, most equipment doesn't have 3 prong eic power output. If it is indeed a ground wire, nothing to be alarmed about. Whoever did it, didn't have to tinker with much on the actual laserdisc electronics side. On this unit it might be possible to swap the power supply with one from a donor CLD-95/97 for 120VAC US Voltages.

=> Toshiba XR-HD1

The serial numbers on the players I could find are #2 and #16.

Definitely very few of these in the world!
