anyone familiar with this? I got this on a whim and thought I could fix it. It doesn't open (probably needs greasing or something) and the motor won't spin or make any noise. this one arrived in much better shape than the d501 did and it does work nicely other than those two things.

Hi, i once purchased a Philips cdv-475 which refused to open the drawer.
This was caused by a belt that was run off the wheel (or what name it may have in english)
But placing the belt back on fixed it...

However if you say there's no motor sound , than it may be a little bit worse

But how do you know it works nicely if the drawer won't open? Did you somehow manage to get a disc in place?
