I just got a pioneer CLD-V2600 and I'm noticing symbols on the front of the player that I've never seen before- LB2 LaserBarcode and BCIICD Bar Code CD. I'm extremely curious what that means and what that does and what kind of wand or item it uses to scan?
So crazy
I've never heard of anything like this and would love to know more!!

Also is this barcode feature something that is limited to single sided players? Or is also available on dual sides players?

Any info would be great!!!
Thanks!

It's limited to players with a serial port, most or maybe all of those are single sided.

Basically a teacher or salesman or movie editor or whatever has a CAV disc with 50,000 stills on it and a book that allows random access of them by scanning the image's bar code. Very popular in schools.

Laser Barcodes function as a remote control. They are done for educational and training industrial titles. There are standard functions like "Play" "Stop" "Left" "Right" "Step Forward" "Step Back". And more advanced controls like "Search to this chapter and play the left audio". I've got a disc called "The Powers of the President". It is a 2 sided CAV disc and the barcode book is an inch and a half thick.

There was also a wireless barcode reader (infra-red). Both models are very rare, though I did own one with my first player, an LD-V4100, pictures here:

Forgot to say that many players will need the interface box shown in my pictures, which is VERY rare, to use a wired barcode reader. Just took a look on ebay (search on "pioneer barcode reader") and there are a lot of wired and wireless barcode readers on offer fairly cheaply.

Just to say that I researched this a bit. I have an LD-V8000 and a Pioneer barcode reader UC-V109BC that works with LaserBarcodes. To my big surprise the barcodes also work with a CLD-515. I documented how it all works as part of a generic remote control project at https://bitbucket.org/staffanulfberg/bridgedirremote.
