I am curious to see if this player is worth the money I paid for it..I have been eying this one for quite sometime for some reason..and I saw a model on E Bay for a buy it now price of 175(plus 28 bucks shipping) and I bit the bullet and bought it. It came with the remote, manual and was said to have been in good condition.. I have heard good things about it from the LaserdiscArchive webpage, and I know it was a quite expensive player back in 1997(I think it retailed for $1200) I know it also has DVD playback capability..but I probably won't be using that feature too much..Anyway, was It a good deal or did I get a dud?

P.S. Sorry for adding this topic in the laserdisc forum page..I am still a newbie on here..

The DVL-700 is based on the CLD-D604 LD player. This is an OK unit. Where this unit lacks is in the DVD options. So if you bought it for LD only then it is an average deal. The DVL-919 gives you full DVD options but it will cost more.

It can be a fun player to have because it does have some pretty neat feature even the 909 and 919 don't have, like the quite varied background color choices. It's as good as the mainstream Pioneer LD players, I think slightly better in fact, but it doesn't play all DVDs, eg, very few burned DVDs play on it and sometimes there's problems with no region DVDs.

But then you have AC3, several digital audio outputs, very good still frame and frame by frame capabilities and a really nice looking front face.

But I usually cannot get more than $100 when I list them. I still have 3 left.
