Thanks for that post. It condenses a lot of my anecdotal negativity into actual facts. :) If the only machine that made "normally playable" discs was the very industrial monster from ODC then when know what to tell people when the next one comes here asking this question.

Does anyone have recordings known to be made with this machine?

I find it hilarious that anyone involved with a show made for cable TV would be making any such remarks about laserdisc. Cable TV is a far more useless technology to have than a laserdisc player. I tried to watch that "Last Laserdisc Player" episode online but it had that annoying Cartoon Network logo plus the words "ALL NEW" next to it! Who can stand to actually WATCH a show like that? If I had any part in making that episode I wouldn't have allowed them to show it like that.

wonder if you could remove the RLV disc from the caddy and play it in a normal LD player?

Hmm, I think he was referring to the caddy format as in you can't play regular discs in the RLV machine?

I can understand that Pioneer's magneto-optical (MD style) re-writable version obvsiously wouldn't be replayable in a normal LD player but this? I'm not sure he said clearly that it wasn't replayable in a normal LD player.

I rewatched the video, he mentioned that even if you took the disc out of the caddy it wouldn't work in a standard LD player because it's a different format- as it's CRV not RLV.

The RLV's were the ones he opened up talking about for a couple minutes with the red coloring.

Okay, thanks. got it straight now. Yeah your discs seem much more valuable if you can find a recorder.
