EDIT I think I've found a source for this part locally. At least, I hope the non-working MDP-455 I am picking up has the required part, & didn't stop working because that's what is broken.
I need a part for a Sony LD player. As many have found them to be unreliable, maybe you have a junked player you can get this part out of.
In my player, in the lower clamp assembly, there is a plastic center bit which is forced up by a spring. This bit consists of two pieces ; the first is a black plastic cylinder-plate-&-cone, & the second is a white plastic ring with three tabs coming off it. The tabs hold the assembly down, so that the spring underneath it doesn't cause it to fly out when the disc is removed. Unfortunately, all three tabs on mine are broken.
My guess is that pretty much any MDP-series player has a part very similar to this. I will pay $25 for one with all three tabs intact & undamaged, or $15 for one which has some cracking at the tab bases but is not so far gone that I can't repair it with plastic cement. Now, probably it's difficult to get this piece out without breaking the tabs, so I guess what the seller would really need to send me is the whole lower clamp assembly. Are there any interested?
I will also trade for a Sony jog/shuttle remote, although if you have a lower clamp assembly for sale, I wonder what you need the remote for!
Below are views of the clamp piece. The broken tabs show only in the right-hand view, because I removed the white portion so I could set a disc in manually. The text is "H-2". The diameter of the piece is 1.40 inch or 35.5 milimeters, the diameter of the rear "shaft" portion is 0.315 inch or 8.00 mm, & the overall height is 0.508 inch or 12.9 mm, according to my measurements. The outer rim fits neatly in the center hole of a LaserDisc, & the inner cone in that of a Compact Disc.
