So great, the LD player arrived today and I was SOOO excited to finally play some discs after a 6 month hiatus. Got the player, poped in my White music disc and waited for it to load. Then, the player started player and then I got a shock. The picture was in black and white. However there were chroma dots all around the screen. I tryed a few discs and then flipped over to side 2 of Blue hawaii and it played in colour, albiet a bit of aliasing. I then tryed another disc and it was in black and white again!! however after the DV bumper it played in colour again. I then put Side 2 of Blue Hawaii back in the player and it was in black and white again.
I am so angry right now. :x :x

What is the problem?

The player is a CLD-1450 and I tryed both Scart and composite conections.

The TV I am using is a 2007 Panasonic Viera Plasma 42".

The guy sold it to me as working for $130.

I hope there is something you can do. Please help!

Is everything you are using the same video standard? It sounds like you may be trying to play NTSC discs on a PAL player.

This site mentions that the player outputs a "pseudo-PAL" for NTSC discs which may be causing issues for your TV:http://www.modeemi.fi/~leopold/AV/CLD1450/

It could be that. However, I dragged out my old CRT moniter and plugged into that via scart to composite and it worked fine, albeit the dropouts, that with this player turn the screen black and white for a second (probably also due to the Pseudo-PAL). But the thing that really scares me is that the problem is intermittant and eratic. It might play the side in colour one time but the next time it's in black and white. I have no Pal discs right now but I should get some to test this out. Should I perform that mod?
