I have Pioneer CLD-1750, can't afford better one at the moment but it could be much worse.

it says there is a 16x9 button on it.
what does it do? do you have any squeezed discs to try?

It sends a 5volt signal on the S-Video output to signal to a compatible monitor that the disc is anamorphic. It doesn't do anything itself to the image.

I did not extensivly experiment with 919 and 1000u yet. I watch lds on mcintosh or cld97 the other two dont get any use. I would say panasonic 1000u overal has better picture than 919. Less noise and sharper. Its even sharper than my cld97. But then 97 is known for its soft picture.
See im running these tru crystalio or dvd video processor. They fix most of the stability issues with their built in tbc, better deinterlacing etc. Crystalio has the best comb filter ive seen. TI super adaptive 2d/3d 5 line with dotcrawl filter and fully adjustable. Combined with fli2300 deinterlacer from faroudja. Upscaled by gennum vxp. It locks to film cadence and reverses ntsc into 24fps. Output is 1080p 24fps on film 60 fps on video

Primary: HLD-X9 (MINT 2002 w/ new logo)
Secondary: LD-S9 (MINT)
Extra: CLD-99 (MINT)

May sell the LD-S9 soon, as it never sees any use, and well, I've got the CLD-99 if need be.

Pioneer LD-V8000. Really heavy, but really cool. Plus it has a large digital frame buffer and a very fast seek time averaging 1/2 of a second for CAV, and 2 seconds for CLV.

STAY AWESOME! :)

In my opinion, No difference if it's done right, badder if it's done wrong.

It can't be better... what isn't there, isn't there :P

simple idea: wouldn't the dac's in the player be bypassed for better sound quality?

My main players are a Runco LJR-I DA, an EAD TheaterVision (exact same player as the Faroudja LD1000 which was made by EAD), Panasonic LX-900 w/AC-3 mod and a Philips CDV-488. I also use a Pioneer LD-1100 top loader for older discs that more modern players don't like. All are processed through a professional DPS-290 TBC and I also use the Faroudja VP-100 SuperNTSC comb filter/detail enhancer with some of the players.

Only if you use the digital output of the player.... but still... The signal is just as is, it will never get better trough upsampling...

It's possible that the 24bit DAC is better than the DAC of the player... Then its possible the sound will be better, but the 24bit upsampling will not do positive things with the sound.

Yes, so?

It doesn't say a thing about sound ;)
The signal that is being processed is 16bit...

As I said, it is possible that the 24bit DAC gives a better sound, but it has nothing to do with 24bit, it is and stays a 16bit signal. Upsampling to 24bit will NOT make it sound better.
Using another DAC than the players own can give better sound. Even if it is a 24bit DAC, but it doen't have anything to do with upsampling ;)

BTW, how's my Dutch :P

Pioneer CLD-1080 is for now, but it used to be Pioneer LD-V4400. I just got a Sony MDP-333, and am trying to figure out if I should switch to it?
