I only have one now from getting rid of two other Pioneers but the one I'm using is a CLD-79 and it looks and sounds better than the lower end models I did have CLD-980 and CLD-S201.

My Main Player is a Pioneer CLD D925 which I am currently repairing and I have an NTSC only U.S. Pioneer DVL 909. I have a Pioneer CLD 515 not working but using for spares (the laser and loading mechanisms are exactly the same as the D925).

My main player is a CLD-D704 with a Sony AC-3 demodulator hooked up. My backup is a CLD-D502.

main player: Pioneer ELITE LD-S2 (with AC-3 RF upgrade)
main player 2: McIntosh MLD7020
backup player: Pioneer CLD-515D (with digital out DTS upgrade)

i've had lots of players almost every europe pioneer player from the last two ranges, and an elite cld-79... and even a japan LD-S9 but the current main players beat them all in my opinion.

I have two mid-grade Mitsubishi players that I am pleased with. A V6022 and a V6020.
Two Sony back ups that I am not pleased with. 800 MDP models.

Let's have a quick poll to separate brands first:

Post subject:  Re: what is eveyone's main player?

The first laserdisc player I ever bought (thankfully second hand) was a Sony MDP850D - between it and the first laserdisc I bought which was rotted I felt I had been robbed blind!!
Playback was so poor I had to give the format just one last chance to redeem itself.
I bought a second player - a humble Pioneer machine and suddenly my faith was restored. The difference between Sony and Pioneer was like night and day.
Thank the lord that Pioneer saw fit to take over the format and foster and promote it over the years. As the results of your poll reveal no other company even came close to Pioneer as far as laserdisc technology was concerned.

FIrst: Pioneer LD-S9
Backup: Pioneer CLD-R6G
but had a hard time convincing the wife as to why I need to keep the R6G as a back up in the cupboard when I upgraded to the S9, instead of just throwing it out :eh: .

Ones in use in the home are:

'Theater' room - Pioneer DVL-919 with Pioneer CLD-D515 (for PAL) on the 64" Pioneer Elite w/s HD CRT rear projector, passed through DVDO HD+ for 1080i upconversion. Also Pioneer receiver, but Sony AC3 demodulator. Nothing like a Pioneer LD player on the set that was designed for it.

Living Room - (Done in a somewhat vintage motif, as we live in a 60s ranch house that still has it's original kitchen and appliances) I took an old 50" CRT Mitsubishi set that had a great 80's styling and beautiful wood cabinet with great folding doors, emptied the CRTs and insides, and built it up to hold a 34" Sony XBR Wega HD w/s CRT direct view trinitron, with all silver-toned accessories. So here I have the two Sony MDP-V series players, the only ones made by Sony with AC3, and are silver, so they match all the other vintage stuff very well (CED, Beta, VCR, Onkyo Receiver & Onkyo AC3 demod), even a 1st gen DVD player with a drawer cover that flips down like the LD players.

Our master Bedroom has a entry room, like a parlor, so I put a 42" Sharp Aquos here and NO set in the actual BR so we can sleep, and the 2 Panasonic LX-1000u's are here.

The other two BR's have vintage styling, the bigger one where the in-laws stay has a 36" RCA CRT with all RCA equipment, so that's where the Proscan PSLD46 went because my RCA Dimensia remote works everything in the room, and the in-laws love it.

The smaller BR I did up for my son to look like his old room from our old house back in the 80s with stuff like LA Raiders banner, etc. Anyway, since it's smaller, it has a Motorola Quasar from 1984, 25" corner design with our very first LD player ever, Magnavox VC-8010 (which was a gift) and our very first VCR, a Sansui that cost almost $600 on sale, both are flip-top. And the Magnavox looks great on the old 25" CRT.

I'm probably overcompensating for living in a home as a kid with 7 brothers and sisters and one TV set to share. No, there are no sets in the bathrooms.

Post subject:  Tell us about YOUR LaserDisc Player.

I have an industrial pioneer v8000 player. Its a 1991 player from Canada that's been modified for Australian power, and was used originally for corporate events, im sure its got tons of features but i wouldn't know as it doesn't have a remote. But that's ok cause I mostly would just press the play button and the eject button to flip the disc. Its really nothing special, I know that, but I'm quite happy with it, How I see it. It's like a first car. Something I can have to learn with and then eventually move up to one of those Elite players. And I mean I have the PS3 to play my DVD's and BluRay's and the Sega Saturn to play vcd's so that's the basics covered.

On the back of the player it has two video outputs. Just standard yellow composite plugs,

and what ive found is when we turn on both the tv's.. the disc looks great on the bottom CRT tv, and a tad blurry and washed out on the LCD TV. I've fiddled with just about every setting I can alter on the top tv, and although we live in a PAL region. Most the TVs here can display both NTSC and PAL quite equally, So im stumped.

Post subject:  Re: Tell us about YOUR LaserDisc Player.

The V8000 is actually a very sophisticated machine, with some amazing features. I have a full set of manuals in PDF form, & am running mine by computer control. (My goal is to figure out a way to interface it to my Sony video edit controller.) I would be glad to share that information with you.

For most of my viewing, however, I have a Pioneer CLD-D704, & a clone of the same player under the Mitsubishi name, their M-V7057. This machine is the top-of-the-line non-Elite US consumer player. It has variable digital video noise reduction (which I usually turn off), AC-3 output, a jog-shuttle dial, & a "Direct CD" mode which shuts of the video circuitry when playing a CD. (In this mode, only the CD tray pops out, using a little door inset into the main one.) If I were to get a MUSE LD player, I'd have to keep at least one of them, only because I have what most people don't, several CDVs & VSDs, the sub-format which puts 5 minutes of LaserDisc analog video on a CD blank, with or without 20 minutes of CD audio tracks. (Supposedly there were a few CD players which contained the LD playback circuitry, so that they could play these discs, but I've never seen one.) I'd probably keep the Mitsubishi, because it has a nicer-looking front panel, all black & white with a blue display instead of the black, gold, & amber of the Pioneer.

I've had a Pioneer cld-1070 and cld-1080 (both since sold) and now I have Pioneer cld-1030 a cld-3030 and a Pioneer Elite cld-52

I have some 5" CDV as well as CD's both 5" and 3" so any of my players have to be able to play those.

Post subject:  Re: what is eveyone's main player?

My main player is a Pioneer CLD-R7G.
Have it hooked up to a Pioneer Elite VSX-27TX A/V receiver with onboard RF Demodulator. Awesome sound with a powerful 24-bit Burr Brown DAC with 120w per channel.
Monitor is a Sony KV-40XBR800 HD-Ready CRT (4:3 AR.)

Have a Pioneer DVL-700 with firmware upgrade for comb filter control in the bedroom.

Other players:
Pioneer CLD-V880 for Karaoke
Panasonic LX-1000u just for fun
Also have a Pioneer CLD-D605 and Pioneer DVL-919 which I've given to different family members so they can borrow movies from me.
