Hi Guys,

I have had my Pioneer CLD-925 since 1996, It hasn't had heavy use! How long do they live for? What parts fail and can they be replaced?

Cheers

hello,

The few things that can go wrong are a motorholder that fails. If the day would come that auto changing sides becomes impossible this would be the most common failure. It's just a plastic little thing and very cheap to buy!
spare part vnl-1700 available from Pioneer!

a drawer loading belt would be another possible problem one day. Another cheap spare part that can be found online.

I have several new spare parts available if the day would come....

Maybe some grease on the loading assy can help in preserving the mechanism. it get's real sticky after 10-15 years.

In all these years owning several cld-d925's I never had any serious problems with the players.
Pioneer (Belgium) can deliver most parts for these machines.

I don't think electronics would fail and if they do it won't be anything that can't be replaced cheap!
some soldering and you would be good to go...

I wouldn't worry to much about it for the time being...

I agree, use it in a clean environment and it will last a long time. The newer players do not have as much issue with grease getting tacky as the older players but this is the only thing that may happen.

How about the loads of electrolytic caps in these players? We've got to be getting pretty close to failure on some of the 80's players.

If proper value and ratings are installed they can last a pretty long time. The ones that were bad were the electrolytic small cans that were surface mount. These units also ran very hot LD players do not run as hot as other electronics as the LD rotation creates a lot of air movement to get the heat dissipated to the frame, this helps a lot.
