Hello all! Coolest site ever! :D Too bad I only recently discovered it. I am currently uploading my titles to the Collection portion of the site (up to 668 titles right now and still have at least another hundred to add). I am hoping all the wonderful people here can offer me some sound advice.

I have through Craigslist found a local working V2800 LD player. Unfortunately, the owner is unable to locate the remote control that went with it. He has asked me to make him an offer. I am considering buying it as a back-up to my current player which has been working fantastically since Fall 1991. But every time I spin a disc (almost daily), I hear its parts rumbling and I wonder what I will do on the day it stops working :( .

My questions are:

1. Is this a good player to serve as a back-up?
2. Is the lack of a remote fatal or can I pick one up without much trouble?
3. What is a reasonable price to offer? If it matters, I am in NE Ohio, USA.

I thank you all in advance for any advice.

Hi & enjoy the site.

I was into the LD format for a couple or three years before i found lddb & it is so informative - I think you will get any help/advice you are looking for.

Cheers.

I don't know much about the V2800 but I heard it's rather unique of an LD player, its has a more narrow design and I think the Mech inside is different also.
Missing the Remote is not a dealbreaker I'd say as the cu-103 and 113 remotes are very common on ebay.
I think 50 dollars or under is a good deal.

And Welcome! :)

Yup $50 is a very nice deal. It's basically a repackaged CLD-S104 (low end) but is still pretty nice, and it has a serial port.

Thanks for the very useful comments, everyone. I am fairly illiterate technologically, so I have to further ask: what is the significance of the serial port?
Based on this info, I will make an offer today.

Do you remember back to a time when USB was just a random string of letters??? Probably not - Universal Serial Bus (port), you may notice some vague similarity....

It's probably not significant to you at all unless you intend to spend hours working out how to control the player using now 'ancient' computer control systems. But then again it might be really significant :)

:wtf: I wouldn't pay more than 10 bucks, if its based on the 104 then its the lowest of the low period.
