Interesting to read that LD Collectors often have a NeoGeo related piece of hardware.

I have myself a NeoGeo AES, MVS and of course a slow (but great) CD System.
LD & SNK forever !

Imagine that today I just walked into a thrift store and found one for $10 8-) It stared at me from across the store and it was love at first sight lol. I already have too many LD players and am not much of a gamer but it is a pretty cool machine. It's in really good condition so if anyone is looking for one PM me and lets work something out.

Check out this informative, and funny, overview of the system on youtube from the Game Sack guys:

The neat thing about the CLD-A100 player is it has more features than the supplied remote provides - like digital stuff that other high end players have. Pioneer just didn't supply a remote to access those features.

My TheaterVision (CLD-99) doesn't provide normal play reverse with the remote, but if I use the remote for the original CLD-900 it will make the player do normal play reverse. And the CX NR button provides direct access to that function - on the TheaterVision's remote you must cycle through L as R on and off to turn CX on or off with discs that don't have auto CX switching. Same with digital and analog - the CLD's remote allows direct switching between digital and analog - the TheaterVision's remote makes you cycle through L and R for both D and A. Pioneer kept old codes in their software when adding new functions, so different remotes allow features to be used that the native remote doesn't.

The LaserActive's main problem is it cost 3x more than buying an LaserDisc player, a TurboGrafix and a Sega individually - and the LD-ROM games were insanely expensive. I have the 8-inch Zoom disc introducing the LaserActive system - it would have been cool for 3x lower price. I really don't thing Pioneer had any intention of long term support. They should have introduced PALCOM here in the US - we had the MSX computers and the LD-700 had the PC jack to connect to the PALCOM adapter. I have the brochures for both the Japanese and UK versions, but America was totally ignored.

Finally found the time to write updates for LaserActive!

The "Video/Compatibility" initially called LD-ROM will be kept and new MEGA-LD & LD-ROM2 will be added.

That means that all previous LD-ROM entries will need to be updated like MEGA-LD (PEAS*) and LD-ROM2 (PEAN*).

If a game can be played without a PAC on CLD-A100 then let's just use NTSC or PAL as usual.

i used to want one of these so bad i could taste it.

eventually, i added many JPN MD games to my collection,
- which my early GENESIS console was ready to accept with only a slight physical modification -
and i found out that the A100's GENESIS/MD module was prone to leaky cap problems,
and i pretty much swore right off the notion of owning one right then and there.

even so, with the prices the system commands today,
i couldn't begin to entertain the notion of acquiring the damned thing even if i still desired to.
my healthy, refurbished PIONEER CLD-3030 and STEREO-RCA-modded GENESIS does everything the CLD-A100 could ever do,
aside from running SEGA/MEGA-CD and LaserActive games, which i have little more than passing interest in in any case...

It really doesn't seem like a system worth the entry fee, except as a novelty. And if you're gonna pay that much money for a system and games, you might as well get the NeoGeo, which actually has a whole bunch of arcade classics on it.

Then again, how many of us are on this website because of novelty?
