That will be a very sad day, for sure. that time will come.... really mint players and very hard to find móvies on LD are yet at ridiculous high prices.... my VHS and LD players from 1995 have begun to show some little problems! sad cause small Oled trimaster could more or less substitute the Crt but analog vídeo players.......

Good evening / Morning to you all, I shall not be parting with my Laserdisc's or Hardware. I am currently expecting 8 x Japanese Laserdisc's with another 25+ approx to follow before Jan 2017. Seller moved from Japan to Australia, and because he cares about my pocket, and knows how much hard work it has taken for myself to pay for this order........9 1/2 years now. Gave at his request my address details around 10 minutes before typing this message to your good selves here. Mr Santini has been very busy with his move, and has informed myself that he had personally boxed & loaded all 350 crates, has taken great care because he knows how best to preserve Laserdisc's and Hardware. It has been a very long journey for this Gentleman. At this time I am his only customer, that he is dealing with and only because of the respect between us both over a good number of years. suffice to mention that: I would not go to such lengths if I wasn't going to keep my hardware and software collection. There is much to discuss here, I have enjoyed reading others posts, and completely understand the problems that all of us LD collectors / enthusiast face with the diminishing number of parts and service engineers to support us all. I do know that I am not alone when I mention that a good number of members here shall undertake our own minor repairs, as and when the need arises. If we could all help each other in some way, then this will help us to continue to enjoy are hardware for many years to come. (PLEASE IF ANYONE HAS A SELECTION OF TOOLS TO REMOVE TOP, SIDE AND INTERNALS THEN THIS WILL PLAY A KEY PART ALONG THE PATH OF SELF SERVICING) Thank you for reading, for sharing your concerns and hopefully we shall become closer in order to assist in any way we can, or able. and this takes into consideration the busy lives that we all lead....... it' not easy....... patience, understanding & endurance go hand in hand. Kindest Regards to all members

Beside it's easier to get another player than sell and ship all the discs! ertoili wrote: - ......when my current LD player stop working cause i'm not going to buy another third hand one in the crappy eBay..... Agreed but ebay, ain't the only option! ertoili wrote: - ......Dunno how to/want to repair that old player... I like to learn, and the satisfaction of taking that and then applying it to fix something can be very rewarding. ertoili wrote: - ......i need space in home....and digital copies on a micro sd makes me boner ...... OK so if you're invoking boners then it doesn't matter what the micros say - size really does matter and it's hard to beat 12 inches!! ertoili wrote: - ......i sell some LDs and i get money for a brand new shiny reference level Bluray player..... But how many copies of U-571 do you have laying around? Besides there's what, 10%, maybe 20% if you're lucky difference between the $200 and $2000 blu-ray player? In the more analogue world engineering and build quality paid more dividends, diminishing returns set in later, and spending the extra bucks usually got you more than it does now. ertoili wrote: - .......I quit LD.....DVD has the best, most complete and even actual catalog and they look great on Crt Well if you consider up to present day then yes, there's another 15-16 years worth of titles, but if you restrict that to the point LD's stopped production, then maybe not so. So you might guess no plans for me to abandon LD anytime soon. My first introduction was in the early 90's in my late teens. Accustomed to the PQ of VHS, LD was a revelation, and then it offered the first pathway to dolby digital and DTS. But LD's were hard to get and expensive here in Perth. So when DVD arrived I was an early adopter and dropped LD real quick. So many customers I demo'ed LD to would say "when they can fit a movie on a CD then I'll buy it", so it wasn't at all surprising to me how quickly DVD dominated the market. But just in the last couple of years I "rediscovered" LD. Dragged the old Marantz player and discs out of the cupboard they sat in for years and after a bit of a learning curve about LD on digital displays and some upgrades I was hooked again. Sure; I'm happy to admit nostalgia plays it's part. One of my favorite by-lines from the top of the web-page is "Buying today what we couldn't afford 20 years ago", so true for me - hard to buy LD's and a good player on a junior shop assistant wage back then! And a Muse set-up probably cost the equivalent of a car back then, it's still not cheap but nothing like that now! While it can't really compete with blu-ray, and with DVD it's debatable I'm still impressed by just how watchable what is 70's video technology can still be today. I don't think there's anything wrong with holding on to the past - so long as you appreciate your reasons for doing so and it's not just some kind of blind stubbornness to new possibilities. So quite the opposite to exiting, after so many years where I'd consigned LD to the dustbin, my collection is now in a building phase!

I think there is magic in Bluray, it's just all on the screen. The physicality of the BR experience is minimal and that's a huge turnoff for us LD types.
I have a few BDs that completely exceed the clarity of LD by such a massive margin than they are truely "magic", or at least feel that way. This usually only happens with massive film works where there is a lot of detail to bring out. Bladerunner, Lawrence of Arabia, pre-CAPS Disney cartoons, etc. Modern stuff is often way too vibrant and digital and lots of really good movies are too stuff for BR to bring much out of them.
