Just retired my Pioneer 704 after six years of faithful service. Replaced it with a Denon LA-3500. Been trying to get my hands on one of these for the last two years.

Well obviously I have Pioneer CLD-1070 but despite being a entry level player the video quality are pretty good.
Here's a bit of footage I recorded from it.

How do you like it.
You may spend more on a player but it will only get you so much better for the technology that it is.

After I'm done with me scoring a few Synthesizers next month,I'll be back looking for more player but since my 1070 still works
I'm fine with what I have right now I just need more discs.
Other than it being an entry level I quite liked the looks of it not as big or heavy as its side switching brothers 2070 and 3070.

As well as a X9 and S9 I got 4 British Pioneer 925's over the past year and had them completely overhauled so fingers crossed I get plenty more years of viewing.

As I'm European, I have dual standard PAL/NTSC machines.

I own 5 Pioneer LD players : 2 CLD-2950 (one modded with AC3 RF out) and 3 LD-V4300D.

I used to use a CLD-2950 as main player, but I now use an LD-V4300D. The latter do give a much more satisfying feeling of robustness and the picture quality on my Quintrix CRT is better - the sharpness is way better than with the CLD-2950, there is no veil on the image, and color saturation is slightly better (even against the CLD-2950 Y/C output).

I'm currently figuring out a way to give the RGB output of the LD-V4300D a try. If it works, I think it will be pretty straightforward to permanently "hack" the RGB output of the LD-V4300D in order to use it with RGB SCART input TV monitors.

I'm scared of trying altering the choice list... it might reset the votes to 0!

I know the Sony's catch a lot of flak but this is the only dual side player that I own. So from a convenience point of view, this is my "main" LD player.

If you do decide to update the list, adding a Denon option would be a good idea, even if they are essentially Phillips.

Philips made a few Denon units in the early days. However, the majority of Denon units from the early 90's and to the end of the format's life were either Pioneer or Panasonic clones.

As far as I know (but am happy & ready to be corrected) the only DENON tagged player sold in the UK was the PAL/NTSC player the DENON LA-2300 which was a PIONEER CLD-D515 clone - same remote & the unit included the AC-3 output.

Cheers

Panasonic and it seems pretty reliable. I notice on eBay there's a bunch of dead Sony and Pioneer brands. I know Pioneer is a popular brand so maybe that's why so many of them are dead. Rarely see a non-working Panasonic on eBay. I think their players are more reliable even tho from some post on this message board people claim the quality is in the middle compared to some Pioneer players.

Hard to really argue with that assessment as when I was selling LD players back in the day I rarely ran into issues with the Panasonic machines. However, FF to today, it’s still very subjective that there really is a reliability edge to a Panasonic player since they never produced as many players as Pioneer did to get a more precise estimate.

I any case, I have 12 working players right now and all of them are Pioneer machines. Some have needed some minor maintenance like a belt change or other mechanical adjustment but that was it. The one Panasonic I did have and later sold was always perfect (LX-101). A Magnavox and a Sony I had were a disaster but it’s hard to say if they were just bad because of their design or just poorly maintained.

In any case, any brand player is good so long as it works. We obviously can’t be choosy about what we want since there hasn’t been a new player produced in the last 20 or so years.

I have a Quasar LD 9090. 30 years old.
Still plays my LaserDisc just fine.
When I first saw it. It was $999.
30 years ago. That was on the steep side.
Every month we would go in a make a payment.
On something, we were paying off.
And I would stop and look at it.
Then it went to $800.
Than $700 Then $500. Then $300.
We go in one month. And it was $99 bucks.
I said. That is it. I get it. They told me. It has about 2 Hrs of use on it. I said OK.
Still have it. It still works great!
And yes! I still by LaserDisc. When I find what I'm looking for.
