We'll have another round within the winner brand (or the 1st, 2nd if close enough).

The only player I have that isn't a Pioneer is a Mitsubishi-badged Pioneer.

I have a feeling Pioneer is going to win this by a landslide.

Pioneer all the way. I once had a Sony MDP-D650 that I used two times or so, then I sold it.

I had to cheat a little (split the votes in 3 parts), but here there are!

If you own Pioneer LD players... [CCS-LV1 to CLD-D406]
If you own Pioneer LD players... [CLD-D500 to CLD-V510]
If you own Pioneer LD players... [CLD-V520 to VP-1000]

I have two other Pioneer CLD-1750 and 2950 that need minor repair or few basic parts other than that the current one playing and for a good buy at £100.00 off ebay is the DVL-909 I like its smoothness thou I miss the CLD-1750 LOL

So why is it that Pioneer is at the top? Is Pioneer the best laserdisc players made? They certainly seem to be the most popular ones made.

well didnt pioneer pretty much buy up all the rights to making players by the early ninties? i would think any other brand player would be pretty basic(not that i have really done any real research into non pioneer players) but since other players would be pre ninties they cant be that good right?

I have two Pioneer backups but my main player is a Panasonic LX-H670 from the late 90's. Might not be the best, but it works great for me. It has all the functions of my Pioneer units and has auto-reverse. Both of the Pioneers have had to have their belts replaced, (they are older), but the Panasonic has been a real work horse for me without any problems at all.

I've had mostly Pioneers, but I did have a Magnavox one whihc I can't seem to locate in the attic anymore. I remember it being pretty crappy.

The Pioneer CLD-R7G is my main player and find it to be a nice entry in the world of Japanese high end players. Some have said it is a re-tooled CLD 600. I don't see that. The additional ability to control contrast can make or break the playback of certain discs, especially on an LCD monitor. Mega-film like quality (depending). Muse is my goal.

All of my LD Players are from the trusted Pioneer brand, as they put the most effort into this fine format.

I beleive that if it wasn't for Pioneer then the Laserdisc format would have died around 1990.

The other thing of note is that THETA and McKintosh used Pioneer units in their own LD players, of which sold for a considerable far higher price, and for only a very very minor improvement in picture.

Pioneer rule in my books.

I once bought a Data II after once reading that it was supposed to be a CLD-97 under the hood (while it's common knowledge that the Data III is a CLD-99 under the hood.) I opened it up and took some pictures of the innards and sent them to Duncan at Bayview Electronics. He wasn't quite sure what to make of it. He said some of the parts and assembly look like a Phillips player while others looked Sony.

I ended up reselling it, because the LD playback was pretty good, but not great (my then player, CLD-79, still looked better), so I ended up reselling it for a nice profit.

That being said, anyone know what's under the hood of the monstrosity that is the Theta Voyager DVD/LD Transport?

I am Sure I read the article in the ''WIDESCREEN REVIEW'' when Theta's Voyager's player came out, that inside they noticed that the main guts were Pioneer.

I should have kept this artical as it was very interesting, however I do not like hoarding magazines, and try to keep things as uncluttered as I can.

Regards to all

My latest laserdisc player is a MSB Technology LS1 Laser Disc Transport. AC-3 was included or added later by MSB. Any info on this player would be appreciated. Quietest laserdisc player I know of.

Hmmmm . . . never heard of an MSB LS-1 (LS-2 and LS-2X, yes, but not 1.) It's not even on the LaserdiscArchive.

If I were to venture a guess, since the LS-2 and LS-2X were rebadged and revamped Panasonic LX-900u LD players, the LS-1 is more than likely another Panasonic player (maybe an LX1000u?)

Do you have any pictures of it?

Is the MSB LS-1 the 5th picture down on the left on this page?

MSB History

If so, that looks kind of like the Runco LJR-II. Since it's called a "transport" it's probably the Runco LJR-II without the D/A convertor. Which would lead me to believe it's a Panasonic LX-900u under the hood with some adjustments.
