I said. That is it. I get it. They told me. It has about 2 Hrs of use on it. I said OK.

Thats a deal.

The Quasar LD-9090 is a Panasonic LX-200 clone.

I recall selling the LX-200 back then but don’t recall it ever being a $1000 machine. Maybe at the most I think it retailed for no more than about $600. The LX-1000 was easily a $1200 to $1300 machine.

In any case, $100 is a great value for a new player like that. Build quality was top notch for that chassis as it weights a ton; very comparable to the Pioneer CLD-2070.

Yes it is Ton. But a great build. Top-notch.
It still works great.
And glad I got it.
The place I got it was on the high side. On things.
As they would give you their own credit.

"old stuff is built to last" made me chuckle.... :)

I have a Pioneer CLD-V2400 that I found in a dumpster behind an abandoned building 4+ years ago (the building had a library in it at one point), works fine, the tray manually opens, but not via the remote (which was taped to it, thankfully).

Aside from that, I had to remove some exterior rust on the base with some vinegar and a hard nylon brush. Works fine with 0 issues. There's a photo of it in my introduction post even.

HI.
Yup! Old stuff is made to last. This stuff we are talking about shows it.
LaserDisc still rule. Ha! ha!.
On my Quasar. The disc would not turn. So the laser could read it.
I took the top off. And find a small white wheel that was stuck.
Put a little baby oil on it. And all is good to go again.;)

Currently my main LD player is a Pioneer DVL-919. It's better than the previous Sony player I was using.

A friend of mine has had a CLD-D704 for the longest time. Comparing that to my 919. His player has a sharper, more defined image. But I'm happy with mine, especially seeing as the choices are very limited in my neck of the woods.

Is a good idea to buy a Cld-99s from 1987 if you dont know how to repair or service a LD player?

I say that is a good question for just about any LD player you buy whether is was made in 1978 or 1998. It's a chance you have to take if you want to be in this hobby. Overall, the CLD-3030 / CLD-99S doesn't appear to have a lot of issues but you have to make sure you try to find one that has been taken care of and hopefully has low hours.

TLDR
First player was a V2000, current player is soon to be a Marantz LV520

Full Version
I'm currently on my 4th LD player. My first I believe was a Pioneer V2000 (I rembmer the red eject button) that I got for free in 2003 while still in college. It was given to me by one of the sales guys at Georgia Home Theater (which started out as Laserdisc Enterprises) after it was removed from Neal Boortz' home theater during a renovation. Since this was pre-Star-Wars-on-DVD and I already had a decent Home Theater for a college kid, I caught a little bit of the LD bug and quickly replaced it with a D406 that hung around for a couple of years before I lost interest in the format.

Fast forward to a couple of months ago (17 years after my first player purchase, ~15 after I abandoned LD) COVID boredom setting in lead to some general Home Thearer overhaul and renovation. I dug out my Star Wars Special Edition box set from the attic to use as a coffee table decoration and, for some reason, seeing it sitting there on display sparked the LD itch again. I picked up a CLD-3070 (with spotty side-B playback) locally for $40 and have added around 20 discs to my collection as well. This week I dove in a little further and picked up a Marantz LV520 (CLD-D504 clone) and Rotel RDA-980 demodulator/decoder and hopefully that's as far as it goes in terms of equipment purchases (since my Marantz SR6011 does a pretty decent job of comb/a-d/deinterlace/HDMI-conversion and my Epson 4000 projector handles Zoom for widescreen discs). I'll probably try to sell the 3070 locally since I got a Square Trade warranty for the LV520, but if there aren't any takers I'll just keep it as a backup.

2020 Update:

I have had three players, and they were purchased in this order.
1) Pioneer CLD-D406
2) Panasonic LX-1000U
3) Pioneer CLD-V2600

All three have had problems and fits. The D406 needed a replacement belt and sometimes has issues with discs. The 1000U worked flawlessly for a few movies but quickly started to get darker and then have tracking issues. It doesn't play anything well. The V2600 was new in box, old stock. It worked great for about 10-20 hours, but it started having playback issues also.

As such, today my main player is the D406. It's the only one I have that has a reasonable chance of playing back an entire disc.

I don't have enough experience to answer the poll BUT this is a vlog of a guy who does!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMA08w_8noA

I can't believe the tech that he wired up in this video! He has a Rasberry Pi running a script to an Eval board (If I have that term right) so that he can alternate his media players like a switch box! This setup is insane!

I'm jealous of you damned people that know so much about LD players and media! Damn...
