Hello all,
I bought my first player two weeks ago, a Marantz LV520. Got a Panasonic LX-1000U yesterday. Here we go again ;) . Here is what I have gathered in two weeks, http://www.lddb.com/collection.php?action=list&user=bguzman. Everything except "The Faces" is from a used record store and Goodwill.

Thanks alien,
I route my LD through my Pioneer Elite VSX-53 to my Mitsubishu HC6500U projector viewed on my 106" screen. Click on the link in my sig to see my HT.

Well I have another LD player on it's way to me. Looks like it should come tomorrow (monday) Hopefully it arrives safe. It's comming from Canada so no customs fees :) I did ask them to power it down correctly and package it well, which they said they would. If it's all working ok, then I think I might sell my Pioneer cld-1030 as I still have yet a cld-92 comming from Duncan that he is servicing.

I had to retire my pioneer dvl-919 in the bedroom. The wife insisted the rack looked too crowded with too many components and cables(5 thick cables coming from ld,7 coming from vcr). I had pull out jvc hm-dh40000u d-theater vcr and lexicon ldd-1 demod as well. Now only hdmi sources are left for clean and simple setup(1 hdmi per device thats it).

So I am down to Pioneer Hld-×0 and McIntosh Mld7020 in my living room. They are both pioneer really

You got a 919? My Dad had one of those too. It replaced the D701 when that broke down. I really don't like the electronics on the 919. I've thought that 40000U looks pretty nice, but without a counter on the FDP, that deck was useless to me. I could've gotten that brand new from B&H back in 2007. How do you like the X0? It looks really nice, but for such a nice deck, it's a shame it isn't dual sided.

DVL-919 was a fine player. The picture quality is average but it had all LD features and audio outputs. It was running through a Crystalio II video processor(superb TBC + 3D Y/C separator + Faroudja Noise reduction) so that elevated the picture quality to above average to good.

I like the look of the 40000U but it wasn't getting any use and really the rack was too small to handle this many components. Cables didn't fit in the back and sticking out on every side.

I love the X0. No other LD player I tried rendered colors so accurately. It is an amazing transport. It read everything(even rotters) and what I mean by everything is every single "hz" on the analog signal and transports to Crystalio II video processor. So you get every possible bit(don't mean digital bits) from the already limited LD signal. I think being a single sided player is a part of this. The engineer didn't want to compromise anything. This player cost $9500 back in 1995(the second best player X9 a year later was $2400) They only made 1500 HLD-X0 ever. I don't think they had profit in mind with such low numbers.

Here you can see some pics of my setup in the living room with HLD-X0 and McIntosh MLD-7020 sitting next to each other.

CLD-D703 arrived today. Judging by the box and the dent I'd say it had a rough trip, dang Fed-Ex. LDs took numerous tries to play and it was kind of screeching at start-up but after changing the tray belt and a clamp-ring cleaning, it seems to work fine and the picture is great. You never know with ebay. Now it's time for some serious geeking out comparing the players. :D

Was this the CLD D703 that was from Connecticut?

You need RF output for AC-3 anyway, might as well send it to Kbahr's or LDservice's way for RF output modification and alignment. 704 I believe it the same thing with rf output added.

Pioneer CLD D5215 - getting a bit unreliable, I suspect that the alignment is way out, sooner or later I will have to attempt to fix it but I'm hoping something better comes along first.

I was looking at one of these but the smearing on Pioneers was a deal breaker. Can the smearing somehow be fixed? I hear this player gives out a great picture. Sorry to hear about the damage, hopefully you filed a complaint with Fed-Ex. Maybe you can recoup some of the cost.

I just sold my CLD-R7G (needed money for car repairs) so now my main LD player is the Runco LJR-I I picked up off of craigslist.

Seeing as how the comb filter in my KV-40XBR800 is a top notch 3D filter, I think I'm better off with the Runco picture and sound-wise.

I just wonder if I'm going to miss the LD-G function

Post subject:  Re: What brand is your main LD Player?

My main LD player has changed since my post on this thread.

I now have a Pioneer CLD-D406 with AC-3 output. ( I feed its AC-3 into a Sony SDP-E800 so as to decode the dolby surround sound.) This player replaces a Sony MDP-600 which has
optical and line level audio outputs; but, no AC-3.

The CLD-D406 I got off E-bay. It apparently had very little use as it was as clean as a new player fresh out of the box and works very well. Since there was no remote control, I had to pick one up from E-bay for a very low cost. I currently use the Sony LD player for LD's with no dolby surround sound so as to minimize wear on the D406.

The PQ for the Pioneer is slightly better than the Sony, IMHO.
