Tried selling a DVL-700 on Ebay. Gets to the seller and it doesn't work (after it was working perfectly before I shipped it.) So now I got it back.

It doesn't seem to be powering up properly. You plug it in, and hit power. You hear something powering up, but nothing really happens for a while (just the blue LED on the front starts flashing.) Then a "STOP" message will come up on the display after a while. Even then, it won't do anything else. You hit "OPEN" but it doesn't open, though the display says "OPEN."

Any ideas on what got jostled loose during shipping with these symptoms?

These players have to take a pretty good jolt for this to happen. For some reason the common reason is the tray gets out of sync with the laser mechanics and it is trying to lift at the same time it is ejecting the tray. I've always thought that this was not properly powering off before shipment but have no evidence to prove it. I usually have to rip out the tray, replace any tabs that break and then they work fine.

The other thing that is not quite as common on the DVL series is the motor holder for the laser breaks with a hard jolt and the laser pickup is loose inside and cannot move to the proper switch position to allow these operations to happen.
