I only came across the description of this player a few days ago here: http://www.laserdiscarchive.co.uk/laser ... _ld-w1.htmReally didn't believe it at first, it sounded so strange, nice to see one "in the wild." If this was in the UK I'd be very interested, though the price and NTSC only are a little off-putting...

Someone should offer him $400 shipped, if it doesnt move at the listed price.

just that it's a fairly rare, and very much unique model.
also, i'm not at all certain of this, but i believe it is supposedly at least equivalent to the 3030, performance wise.
that said, it ain't nearly as sexy looking as the 3030, IMHO, but that is of course only personal opinion, which is naturally quite relative...

Is it actually two trays, or a tray split into two levels? later - sorry, there's an animation on the archive page, there are two trays behind a single flap. It looks horribly complicated!

it took me a while to figure that animation out. it has 2 separate trays that holds each disc. that is the back end, it seems that the laser and spindle are on that rotating piece, and each disc will feed back into it and that will flip. very complicated indeed..... ________________________________ the rein-o official signature:

Anyone know how much these are a pain to fix if they are stuck while in the process of changing disks?

While I've never had to fix mine, the insides are way more robust that what's in most other players. Everything is huge and metal, as opposed to flimsy and plastic. The entire head and motor and everything flips, not just the laser. This is why its slow, but this is also probably why mine still works and all my Gamma Turn units have needed one repair or another at some point.
It is deep, very deep. This is because it has to be able to pass one LD over the other while both are still inside the player. So yeah, that means its more than 24" deep for that to be possible.

Though, you might want to ask him yourself. Anybody remember the Ford retractable hardtops? The biggest failure on those was the limit switches which monitored every position of the top. The LD-W1 is the same. A BUNCH of switches to monitor tray position and such. If not packed properly for shipping the bottom where the right front foot is mounted "caves in" and tosses a couple of critical switches behind the front panel out of alignment. A pain to work on? They can be, but it's a bit of fun. Not too well thought out from a service standpoint...there are all kinds of extension cables needed to service it "by the book". Rare? I had one I wanted exchanged for a customer under warranty. No problem as Pioneer had over 300 in the warehouse (this after they were discontinued).

The procedure was to take product like that, under security guard to a portion of the property and DESTROY it After writing it off there was to be absolutely NO chance that it would get into anyone's hands.....
